Spider-Man: Now Way Home Brings Back Everyone and Does it Right!

Yes, Peter Parker is the focus of No Way Home, but the movie still has to deal with a large cast. Where most movies get this wrong, NWH brought back all its iconic characters in the best way possible!

Marvel had received criticism recently about dealing with an ensemble cast: Eternals was deemed way too “crowded,” with the audience not being able to connect with its characters.

No Way Home probably has the same amount of characters, but here’s where it differs: (Like the Avengers movies), most of these characters have been given the space to have their own established backstory.

That is why when they’re slung into No Way Home, their presence does not feel out of place or unnatural.

But even with established characters, getting them to gel on screen is quite a task.

The first step NWH employs is giving the audience all the information they need to understand how the characters are part of the movie.

An angry but confused Doc Ock reveals that Tom’s Peter is not the Spider-Man he knows, while Strange confirms to both Peter and us that multiverse is real — This explains how the other Spidey characters have entered the MCU.

Next, the movie stays true to the characters and gives each of their stories and personalities a chance in the limelight. You truly feel like you’re transported back to Maguire and Garfield’s movies, and not a second has passed!

With regards to the villains, I personally appreciated how they were not grouped together as the big baddies, and each had their own agenda that drove the movie forward.

Kudos to the writers for being on point with all the callbacks, Easter eggs, and fan service!

Lastly, the characters were not just marketing ploys — NWH’s biggest selling point was its speculations of featuring Maguire and Garfield. But it was worrying if their appearance alone could carry the movie.

While it was fantastic to see three Spideys fight together (what a glorious sequence the Statue of Liberty was!), it was better yet to see Maguire and Garfield’s Peters play a significant role in MCU Peter’s growth arc and be a guiding force to him.

This is exactly why No Way Home is an unquestionable hit and warrants multiple watches!
