Space Force season 2 is now out on Netflix for us to binge and enjoy. On 18th February, 2022, all seven episodes of the workplace satire dropped on the streaming service.
Created by Greg Daniels, popularly known as the showrunner of The Office (US), Space Force is a satirical comedy loosely based on the 2019 US military branch instituted by Donald Trump. One of the main attarctions of the series is Steve Carell, who plays General Mark Naird.
Season 1 had ended with a massive cliffhanger. General Naird was on the verge of being fired from his position for defying orders. In the new season, we can expect to know more about how things get resolved.
Season 2 will also deal with inter-country tensions and a new administration in the military. Many cast members from season 1 are back in season 2. Earlier, Netflix had released a trailer of season 2 of Space Jam which gave us an insight into what to expect from the second season.
Steve Carell is back as General Mark Naird, with his space team. John Malkovich is also back as Dr Adrian Malory, a head scientist who has frequent clashes with Naird. Ben Schwartz, Jimmy O. Yang, Tawny Newsome, Don Lake, and Diana Silvers are other cast members who have returned for season 2.
Ever since Carell’s controversial departure from The Office (US) in season 7, there has been speculation about his return to comedy. With Space Force, Carell collaborated again with Greg Daniels, his showrunner of The Office.
With a similar concept and the premise of the workplace, Carell’s character in the show has met with frequent comparisons with Michael Scott, his iconic role from The Office. Naird is an Air Force officer who leads a team of scientists who are tasked to achieve entire dominance of space by the White House.
In this respect, many have found Naird’s role to be similar to that of Michael Scott, a Regional Manager in-charge of running a branch of a paper company. In fact, Daniels and Carell have also earlier claimed that Space Force season 2 would be more like The Office.
So, Space Force might deserve to have a place in your watchlist if you’re a fan of The Office.
