Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest Teaser Video Reveals Summer 2023 Debut

On December 27, Kyoto Animation released a teaser video for a theatrical OVA of the “Ensemble Concert” arc of its Sound! Euphonium anime, which will open in Japan in Summer 2023. The anime is titled Tokubetsuhen Hibike! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest.

The anime will have both theatrical screenings and a Blu-ray disc release.

Tatsuya Ishihara will be directing the anime, with Naoko Yamada as the chief director. He will also be directing the upcoming third season of the anime, which will air in 2024.

The first two seasons of the anime are streaming on Crunchyroll. The plot of the anime, as described by Crunchyroll, is:

“Spring in the first year of high school. Kumiko, a member of the brass band in junior high school, visits the high school brass band club with classmates Hazuki and Sapphire.

There, she comes across Reina, her former classmate from junior high. Hazuki and Sapphire decide to join the club, but Kumiko can’t make up her mind. She recollects her experience with Reina at a competition in junior high school.”

The original Sound! Euphonium light novels written by Ayano Takeda are published in Japan by Takarajimasha under their Takarajimasha Bunko imprint, and Yen Press publishes the English translation of the novels.

About Sound! Euphonium

Sound! Euphonium is a novel series by Ayano Takeda. It was later adapted into a manga and an anime series. It has also received 4 anime films.

The story focuses on the Concert Band Club of Kitauji High School. The club was facing a downfall, however, after a new adviser was appointed, their status slowly improved.

Kumiko, a first-year student in high school, is the main protagonist. The story progresses as the members sometimes have troubles but then go on to win several tournaments.
