On December 23, The “Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth Opening Day Stage Greeting & Kazuki’s Birthday Celebration” event announced that the Sōkyū no Fafner Behind the Line spinoff anime will have special advance screenings in theaters on January 20.
Soon after the event, the official website of the Soukyuu no Fafner franchise released a new promotional video for the spinoff. The video features the episode’s theme song “Start again” by angela. The song will be released digitally on January 20.
The spinoff episode is set between the 2010 Azure: Heaven and Earthand the 2015 TV series Fafner Exodus.
Takashi Noto will be directing the episode at Production I.G, with Tow Ubukata as the scriptwriter. Hisashi Hirai is slated to be the character designer and Naohiro Washio is the mechanical designer. The music composition for the series is by Tsuneyoshi Saito.
The final three episodes of the 12-episode Sōkyū no Fafner THE BEYOND anime opened in Japanese theaters in November 2021, and their Blu-ray Disc and DVD shipped on March 16.
About Sokyuu no Fafner: Behind the Line
Soukyuu no Fafner in the Azure is a Japanese mecha anime franchise created by Xebec in collaboration with Starchild Records. Sokyuu no Fafner: Behind the Line is a spinoff anime in the franchise.
The story focuses on Tatsumiyajima, the central island in a sleepy backwater of the Japanese isles. Not much happens there, and the island’s young people go to school knowing that their lives are likely to remain peaceful and undisturbed.
Or so they have been taught… but the truth is different. The fate of mankind is on the line, and Tatsumiyajima is the last line of defense against a hostile and incomprehensible enemy.
