Sony’s Spider-Man Universe fans are eagerly awaiting the next wave of movies featuring Kraven the Hunter, El Muerto, and Madame Web.
However, while the first and last have been making headlines with their plot and casting news, El Muerto has been shrouded in mystery. The only thing known about the film is that it stars Bad Bunny as the titular character. Recently, a new report has come out that sheds some light on the project’s status.
The Film & Television Industry Alliance has recently revealed a new production list that includes El Muerto, and the film is set to begin shooting on August 7, 2023.
This is a welcome update for fans who were worried about the film’s fate after Bad Bunny’s publicist announced in April that El Muerto was “at a standstill” and had not started production yet. However, this filming date also means that the film will likely face a delay from its original release date.
According to the initial timetable, January 12, 2024, was the predicted release date for the film, but that seems unlikely now.
The recent rumor suggests that El Muerto will begin shooting in August, but even if that’s true, it won’t be enough time to finish the movie on schedule.
Based on the previous and upcoming SSU movies, we can make an educated guess about when El Muerto will actually come out. The SSU has three movies under its belt so far: Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and Morbius.
Venom started production on October 2017 and came out a year later, in October 2018. Morbius followed a similar timeline, but the pandemic messed it up. The movie began filming in February 2019 and was released in April 2022. Venom: Let There Be Carnage also faced delays due to the pandemic. It started filming in November 2019 and premiered in October 2021.
El Muerto is not the only movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe that fans are looking forward to. There are two more films on the way that can give us a clue about when El Muerto will hit the theaters.
Kraven the Hunter will hunt down his prey this October after starting production on February 2022. Madame Web will weave her web in February 2024, after beginning filming in July 2022.
It seems that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe movies need at least a year between production and release. So, if El Muerto really starts shooting in August, the earliest we can expect to see it is August 2024.
