Zack Snyder Breaks down ‘Army of the Dead’ Trailer Shot-by-shot

Zack Snyder breaks down the Army of the Dead trailer shot-by-shot in a new behind-the-scenes video from Netflix.

Army of the Dead has won a lot of fame as Zack Snyder’s first film after releasing his Justice League director’s cut. Although the film offers a tribute in many ways to the zombie classics of the past (something Snyder has done before with his 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake), it puts a new twist on things by clubbing together the horror, action, and heist genres into a bizarre and intelligent undead blockbuster.

A prequel film and spin-off animated series set in the Army of the Dead universe, which will build on the movie’s unique zombie lore, has already been ordered by Netflix.

Thanks to a recent video from Netflix UK & Ireland, fans can get a glance at the behind-the-scenes of the movie with the director himself. In the video, Snyder explains the official Army of the Dead trailer shot by shot. He provides details of some of the technical processes and challenges that went into the several action sequences.

  1. The epic zombie tiger was Zack’s own idea.
  2. $200 million—logistics
  3. Locations used in the film—US, swimming pool zombie HQ
  4. Harbinger of death mankind

Snyder shares some intriguing stories about the film’s zombies, talking about their hierarchy and social systems. Army of the Dead casts several different types of zombies, from the regular shuffling undead to much more intelligent and deadly breeds. The hierarchy starts from Zeus. Zeus was the original zombie who escaped from Area 51 and started the outbreak. Any person Zeus tarnishes becomes an elite alpha zombie, who can then generate weaker zombies of their own.

Though the era of undead overload that enveloped The Walking Dead’s breakout success over a decade ago has faded in recent years, the zombie genre continues to remain crowded. However, Snyder and his team have done their best to create a new and exciting story that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Army of the Dead is set to launch on Netflix on May 21, with a limited theatrical release planned for a week before May 14.
