Mitsumi tries to get onto a tightly packed yet efficient schedule under Takamine’s guidance in episode 4 of Skip and Loafer titled “Tingling Cutlet.”

Approached by the leader of the drama club, Kanechika, he uses this opportunity to try and take advantage of Mitsumi’s friendship with Shima to convince the star child actor to join the club. However, she does not betray his friendship and handles the situation maturely.

Meanwhile, feeling guilty about the time she’s wasted, Mitsumi tries and follows the example of the most disciplined person in the school, Takamine. Spending a day with her changes her views entirely, and Takamine learns from Mitsumi.

1. Episode 5 Speculation: 

Spending a day with Mitsumi has made Takamine realize there is much more to life than being efficient and sticking to a strict daily schedule. Her nightmares of missing her bus are now accompanied by a friendly cat, symbolizing Mitsumi’s carefree personality.

Her life will change and may even impact the Student Council. The next episode will likely be focused on Shima since he was not had a significant part for a couple of episodes now, and it may even give more insight into his backstory as a child actor.

3. Recap of Episode 4:

Mitsumi begins heading to school much earlier than usual and is excited about the day. She runs into Kanechika as he tries to get some information about Shima, but she cuts him off and goes off on her tangent, which he finds a perfect opportunity to get her to talk.

He shows her an episode of an old TV show that starred Shima as a child and begs her to convince him to join the drama club. She hesitates, but he provides no opportunity to say no, and she eventually worries about it the entire day.

Shima notices her being gloomy and asks if anything happened, and she finally spills the details of what went down. He explains why he doesn’t want to act anymore, something he left behind and has no interest in anymore.

They talk about their lives back home and their struggles to achieve their goals and get to where they are. Mitsumi went through so many efforts to do well in the entrance exams and even skipped out on multiple meals because of it.

Recalling Fumi’s influence over her life, she decides to help Shima as his good friend from now on. Meanwhile, Mitsumi is sent to Takamine as an example of someone extremely disciplined.

Mitsumi spends the day with her as she observes her entire plan throughout the day and the number of things she keeps in her planner to keep up with everything. Even during the commute, they study together on the bus to maximize efficiency. 

They miss one of the buses and have to stall for 15 minutes which extremely distresses Takamine, but Mitsumi has an entirely different view of it, playing with a cat and enjoying the view. While she stresses over the time she wasted and how much off track she went, she has missed out on the more minor pleasures of life that Mitsumi never misses.

Mitsumi tries to create a schedule that matches Takamine, but the next day she tells her not to follow her example. Her personality has changed after spending time with Mitsumi, and she freaks out everyone around her.

4. About Skip and Loafer

Skip and Loafer is a manga by Misaki Takamatsu that was launched in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine in August 2018. An anime adaptation is set to premiere in April 2023.

The manga focuses on Mitsumi who is from a backward area in Japan and moves to Tokyo for attending high school. Sosuke is an ikemen and he meets Mitsumi on her first day at the new school. Mitsumi is focused on her career, unaware of what the big city has in store for her.

Sosuke becomes quite fond of her and they become friends. It is a cute high school-based series with light-hearted comedy.
