M. Night Shyamalan Finishes Filming His New Movie, Knock at the Cabin

Acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan has reportedly finished filming for his new horror flick, Knock at the Cabin.

M. Night Shyamalan is known for dark, twisty films like 1999’s The Sixth Sense, which shaped the thriller genre as we know it today. The director has since helmed numerous critically acclaimed projects and established his storytelling through complex, shocking narratives.

Shyamalan is joined by an impressive cast in Knock at the Cabin, which features Dave Bautista, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, and Rupert Grint.

In Knock at the Cabin, Shyamalan promises a home invasion thriller with a twist, though specifics of the story have not been released. However, there is speculation that it will lean toward the horror genre. The film has been teased to have a ’90s thriller vibe, as Shyamalan has already shown some of his current projects with a similar aesthetic.

Shyamalan has announced that filming for the movie has come to a close. Along with a picture of the slate from the cast and crew’s final day, the director shared some words of praise for them all.

This image of fog-covered woods surrounding an isolated cabin definitely ties into the rumored horror themes, giving the film a Cabin in the Woods atmosphere. Knock at the Cabin struck a chord with the director, and he says that working on the film changed him in both a professional and personal way.

It’s not entirely surprising that Knock at the Cabin has elicited such an enthusiastic response. Within a week of filming, Shyamalan admitted that he had to take a break to collect himself, as the actors’ deep emotional performances had left him shaken.

It’s not the first time the director, and perhaps other crew, have experienced powerful reactions to performances, as the director revealed that the film is “very dark” and “emotional”.

Shyamalan signed a deal with Universal Pictures in 2019 to produce two new original movies. The first of these, Old, debuted in 2021. As is the case with Shyamalan’s infamous twists, Old did well at the box office, but polarized critics.

Shyamalan has quickly winded up his second project with Universal as the filming of Knock at the Cabin comes to a close. With his previous successes already in the spotlight, Shyamalan continues to push himself further by revealing just how much an impact his latest film has had on him.

This enticing thriller will be released in theaters on February 3, 2023.
