Secrets will be the hallmark of next week’s episode as murder, conspiracies, adultery, and many more blasphemous acts hide under a thin veil of fear, ready to be unfurled at any time.

Firstly, Blackthorne and Lady Mariko will face the imminent danger of getting exposed. They must keep their act together and not let their intimacy become public. I expect a lot of drama to unfold. Will Toranaga get to know about their secret? The consequences will be catastrophic.

We will also learn more about Lady Mariko’s mysterious past. How did her father, Akechi Jinsai, rise to power? What is the backstory of the ruthless warlord Kuroda? The start of the backstory might happen from episode 5 itself.

Elsewhere, the consequences of eliminating Jozen and his minions will befall Lord Nagakado. How will Toranaga punish him? I believe he’ll be stripped off his duties and suspended from the force.

Finally, a potential conflict between Blackthorne and Toranaga is on the horizon because of the delayed return of Blackthorne’s crew and ship. Or maybe Toranaga will kill Blackthorne when he finds out he’s been sleeping with Lady Mariko.

5. Shogun Episode 4 Recap

In last week’s episode, Toranaga reviews Yabushige’s forces in Ajiro and heads to Edo. Meanwhile, Mariko informs Blackthorne that his crew and ship are now Toranaga’s property, who’s in Edo to capture them.

Talking about Blackthorne, he’s offered a house, a salary, and Usami Fuji as a consort if he trains Yabushige’s troops for six months.

Blackthorne accepts this offer from Yabushige and starts training the army in English naval warfare, focusing on cannon use and other advanced methodologies.

Elsewhere, Nebara Jozen demands Yabushige’s return to Osaka to swear loyalty to the daimyō regents. Yabushige gets a hint of trouble in Osaka, invites Jozen to appease him, and makes him watch the cannon demonstration.

In the latter half of the episode, Blackthorne and Mariko finally get intimate and have a bonding moment amid the chaos.

The episode ends in pandemonium as Nagakado defies orders and uses the cannons to kill Jozen and his men during the cannon demonstration. This upsets Yabushige.

6. About Shōgun

Shōgun is an upcoming American historical drama television limited series based on the 1975 novel of the same name by James Clavell. The novel was previously adapted into a 1980 television miniseries.

The series is set to premiere with its first two episodes on February 27, 2024, on Hulu and FX, with new episodes of the 10-episode series then releasing weekly.

Shōgun follows “the collision of two ambitious men from different worlds and a mysterious female samurai; John Blackthorne, a risk-taking English sailor who ends up shipwrecked in Japan, a land whose unfamiliar culture will ultimately redefine him; Lord Toranaga, a shrewd, powerful daimyo, at odds with his own dangerous, political rivals; and Lady Mariko, a woman with invaluable skills but dishonorable family ties, who must prove her value and allegiance”.
