In episode 33, titled “Osorezan le Voile part 4,” Yoh and Matamune made their way to Osorezan and found Anna. Matamune stated a plan that would help defeat the demon.

Yoh was troubled by the plan, for he won’t see Matamune again. Yoh used Soul integration with Matamune’s furyoku and weakened the demon. Anna mentioned she still hates the world, but her love for Yoh was more than her hate.

The demon tried to take Anna out, but Yoh defeated it with a decisive move. Anna met Yoh as he headed back and said she’d become stronger by controlling her powers. Yoh read the letters Matamune had written for him as he returned home.

With Matamune’s Furyoku at its limit, he says Yoh cannot defeat the demon at his shaman level. Yoh says he has to try even though he doesn’t know how to save Anna. Matamune then reveals there is hope for Anna, and she can be saved.

He states there is only one way to defeat the demon and tells Yoh the plan as they reach Osorezan. Yoh confronts the demon asking where Anna is, and the demon replies she ran off after he got his full power. Then out of nowhere, Anna appears.

Anna states she hates everyone and tells them they don’t know what she’s been through all her life. Matamune reveals her heart was affected just like Hao many years ago. Even though he couldn’t save Hao back then, Matamune knows it will be different because Anna has Yoh.

Anna then tells the demon to take them out. With that, Matamune and Yoh get ready. Yoh, in tears, bids farewell to Matamune and uses soul integration with a necklace. Yoh reveals Matamune is now part of him to defeat the demon and can’t materialize anymore.

The scene goes back to Matamune explaining the plan to Yoh in the snowmobile. Matamune tells how they can defeat the demon by transferring his remaining furyoku to the demon slayer blade.  He says soul integration will dematerialize his body, so Yoh will have to use the sword.

Matamune tells Yoh how a human spell formed him. He mentions he won’t retake a physical form as the spell breaks. Matamune then tells him he wanted to protect someone long ago but lost faith in that person. He states it’s haunted him for many centuries.

Because of the inability to have faith in others, he says the darkness of humans repeats itself. Matamune says faith is the true essence of love, but the darkness in his soul made him lose faith in his master.

Matamune narrates how after the fight is over, his soul will return to its resting place, and he’ll have no regrets. He trusts Yoh and says to protect Anna and have faith in her. Back in the fight, the demon is cut down and is getting weak.

Anna questions Yoh why he would risk everything. As she states she still hates this world, the demon uses the chance to gain power. Anna then says her feelings for Yoh weigh more than her hatred. She also states the demon will be defeated.

With this, the demon goes mad and uses his powers with minions from his body to finish Anna. Yoh defends her from the attacks. As he says his final goodbye to Matamune, he finishes the demon. He takes out the demon with Ultra Senji Ryakketsu: Crescent Moon purification.

Yoh then narrates the encounter with Matamune taught him more about the world of shamans. He says it helped him prepare for the unexpected. Muno gathered the thousand and eighty beads to be used as a medium for spirits while Yoh kept Matamune’s medium.

As Yoh headed back home, Muno tells him Anna will be a force to reckon with the next time he meets her. On the train, Anna appears, and Yoh gets surprised. She states she wants to control her powers and get stronger. Anna thanks Yoh for saving her and showing there’s hope.
