Nothing speaks unity and rebellion like a fandom hellbent on getting their favorite show the attention and renewals it deserves.
Netflix adapted Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels in the show Shadow and Bone, which first premiered on the streaming platform in April 2021. Season 2 landed on the streaming platform in March 2023 and enjoyed a comfortable stint on the top 10 list.
Despite two months since the latest season’s premiere, Netflix has not renewed the series for season 3 – and the fandom isn’t happy. The most recent blunder on their part was canceling Warrior Nun, which many viewers have complained about in earnest.
The Shadow and Bone fandom is two steps ahead of the streaming service, though, and has already set several tactics to ensure season 3 and a spinoff featuring the Six of Crows group comes to fruition.
Their running campaign includes viral hashtags on Twitter and TikTok boosted by edits and AUs, with #SaveShadowandBone and #SOCSpinoff trending almost every week since the premiere. Multiple dedicated fans have even set up timely watch parties and encouraged others in the community to watch the show numerous times.
While Netflix monitors a show’s engagement roughly for the first three weeks after the premiere, it doesn’t regularly share any specific data on the series. Due to that, fans have had to keep engagement up on social media. Despite the immense pressure, they’re not backing down from this challenge either.
One fan claims to have watched it over 60 times, while others have erected multiple social media campaigns to boost the show’s popularity. The report by Rolling Stone claims that Shadow and Bone fans will keep the work up till Netflix finally delivers their verdict on their favorite show.
Their efforts just might bear the fruit they want! Setting up watch parties and watching the show in its entirety is in line with what a Netflix screenwriter shared about how to keep a show from getting canceled. The social media campaigns not only push the show in the trending list every day since the season 2 premiere but also help draw in new viewers.
