Scream VI Post-Credits Scene: What Does It Mean?

Scream VI released in theatres on March 10, 2023. As most fans are already aware, this was the first movie in the Scream franchise that Neve Campbell, who plays Sidney Prescott, did not return for.

However, this isn’t the only detail that makes the movie stand out. In another first, we also got a post-credits scene!

SPOILERS AHEAD! This page contains spoilers from Scream VI.

But don’t get your hopes up. In true Scream fashion, the scene was only added to mock the current trend of adding a post-credits scene. In no way whatsoever does it reveal anything from the previous movies nor does it set up a future one.

Keep reading to know exactly what happened.

1. What happens in the Scream VI Post-Credits Scene?

The Scream VI post-credits scene is only about 2 or 3 seconds long.

Mindy Meeks-Martin

In the scene, Mindy Meeks-Martin, played by Jasmin Savoy Brown, looks straight into the camera and says, “Come on, not every movie needs a post-credit scene.” It is a continuation of an earlier scene from the movie where Mindy explains how to survive a horror franchise.

That’s it. No shocking revelation, no teaser for a sequel; it’s just one sentence.

2. What was the purpose of adding the scene?

The Scream Movies are known for taking a satirical approach to horror movies and purposely “breaking the rules” of slasher films. So I’d say this post-credits scene is perfectly on brand for them.

The scene essentially acts as a meta commentary to mock movies that have recently started following the trend of adding a post-credits scene at the end, prominently superhero movies from Marvel and DC.

It’s a reward for fans that waited till the end hoping for a scene. At the same time, the creators are mocking them for thinking that Scream VI would use this opportunity to disclose something about a previous movie or announce a potential sequel.

Unfortunately for us, there was nothing of that sort.

3. Will future Scream Movies also follow this pattern?

We don’t have a proper answer for this. The creators might have added the scene as a one-time thing only, or they might be jumping on the bandwagon of adding post-credit scenes.

And even if they start following this pattern, we don’t know if they will use the scene to show us something that will affect the story or if it will be another sarcastic one-liner.

Either way, I’m sure we’ll be impressed with whatever they come up with. The Scream franchise is known for its unpredictable nature so I think it’s better that we leave the suspense.
