Chapter 73 of Sakamoto Days titled “Killer Lotto Scratch”, welcomes us to Slur’s hideout where he is trying to induct Mafuyu and Toramaru after kidnapping them. The man makes a charming pitch but the fact that he had to kidnap them to make that pitch makes it a lot less convincing in my opinion.
In some more surprising news, the results of the JCC exams have finally arrived. Shin received the top rank but to everyone’s surprise, Mr. Sakamoto does not.
How could that have happened is something that I do not understand. The next chapter has a lot of explaining to do.
1. Chapter 74 Discussion
We are given a look at three fronts in this chapter. The first one is Slur and his organization trying to induct Mafuyu and Toramaru, the second is the members of the Order gearing up for a mission and the last is Mr. Sakamoto and Shin getting their results.
What will happen with Mafuyu and Toramaru is still up in the air. Slur seems to be trying to brainwash them but the two are strong assassins of their own accord. There is a good chance that they break free at the first chance they get.
With Shin passing and Mr. Sakamoto not making the cut, there is a strong chance that Shin might just have to go through with this mission without him.
It is quite possible that some of the other assassins like Kaji would have also passed and thus might help him out but not having Sakamoto-San with him puts the whole operation at risk.
2. Chapter 74 Release Date
Chapter 74 of the Sakamoto Days manga has been released on Sunday, Jun 12, 2022. The chapter title has not been leaked yet.
I. Is Sakamoto Days on Break This Week?
Chapter 74 of Sakamoto Daysis not on a break this week. It will continue in the next issue of the Weekly Shonen Jump as usual.

Raw scans for chapter 74 of Sakamoto Days have not been released yet. These scans usually surface on the internet one to two days before the weekly release day. So, we can expect them to surface by June 11.
4. Recap of Chapter 73
The chapter begins by taking us to Slur’s hideout where he has kept Toramaru and Mafuyu after kidnapping them.
We are met with the member of his gang, all of whom turn out to be one crazy character after another. There seems to be a lot of friction between the members of the gang as they continuously double-cross each other and even get into fights.
The only thing that looks to be keeping together is their belief in Slur’s mission and his ideology.
Slur wants to take down the JAA in order “to return the world to its natural order, for the sake of sacred justice”. It is the doctrine that he is trying to sell to the young assassins he had kidnapped but the two do not seem very convinced.
The next scene takes us to Nagumo, Shishiba, and Osaragi from The Order who are out on yet another assignment because Kanaguri refused to show up.
The assassin trio goes over to a tiny shop and gets themselves three “Killer Lotto Scratch Cards”, which act like regular lotto cards but also act as sources of information.
The cards tell them that assassin killings have been found out near Kyoto and since an ‘X’ symbol has been found near the crime scenes, Slur’s organization is most probably involved.
Osaragi wonders what would happen if Slur was successful and if the JAA went down. Shishiba thinks that it would only exponentially increase the crime rates but Nagumo’s assessment brings him to the conclusion that it could lead to the downfall of Japan.
Mr. Sakamoto and Shin, on the other hand, are taking it easy back at the shop but that moment does not last long as the letters with their results had just arrived. Shin was placed first out of the 352 assassins taking the exam and much to everyone’s disbelief, Mr. Sakamoto failed.
We have no clue where and how that evaluation resulted in what it did but I believe that it is one mystery that the next chapter will have to address.
