French Artist, Jérôme Alquié, to Draw the New Saint Seiya Manga!

Jérôme Alquié, a French artist, is in quite an enviable position working alongside the eminent mangaka Leiji Matsumoto.

His series starred characters from Matsumoto’s Captain Harlock, serialized in Akita Shoten’s Manga Cross website. What started as a sincere tribute to his childhood favorites, Captain Harlock and Saint Seiya, helped Jérôme Alquié stand out in the crowded manga space. 

His Captain Harlock manga which is only available in French and Japanese, will soon start its English debut in June and will be available for free on Comic Book Day 2021.

Recently he gave an interview talking about his work and his upcoming big project.

French Artist, Jérôme Alquié, revealed that his next big project would be working on Masami Kurumada’s hit series, Saint Seiya. He will be closely working with Leji Matsumoto and the publisher house Kana.

The original manga of Saint Seiya started publication in 1986. Over the many years, the manga has spawned many spin-offs and sequels along with anime adaptations 

The most recent adaptation of Saint Seiya was in July 2019. It was a CG anime remake that debuted on Netflix. Moreover, a live-action Hollywood movie has also been greenlit.

Jérôme Alquié stated that he aims to bring back the emotions people felt when they first watched Saint Seiya. There are bound to be a lot of childhood memories that are attached to such an old series. 

French artist Jérôme Alquié has revealed in an interview with ANN that his next project is a comic based on ‘Saint Seiya.’

It will be published by the French publisher Kana and has confirmed that Masami Kurumada himself is supporting him throughout the creative process.

About Saint Seiya

Saint Seiya, also known as Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac or simply Knights of the Zodiac, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masami Kurumada.

The manga was adapted into an anime television series by Toei Animation that ran from 1986 to 1989, before being continued in the form of three original video animation series between 2002 and 2008.

The story follows five mystical warriors called the Saints who fight wearing sacred sets of armor named “Cloths”.

The Saints have sworn to defend the reincarnation of the Greek goddess Athena in her battle against other Olympian gods who want to dominate Earth.
