Kenshin defeats Kurogasa in episode 7 of Rurouni Kenshin 2023, titled “The Two Hitokiri.”

Well, the result of this battle was predetermined and expected. Nothing else other than Kurogasa’s defeat was a possibility. He did manage to inflict some injury on Kenshin, who has been invincible till now.

The climax of the episode raised some good philosophical dilemmas for Kenshin as Kurogasa stated that the Hitokiri wouldn’t be able to live the life of a Ruroni, questioning the very existence of our hero.

1. Episode 8 Release Date

Episode 8 of the Rurouni Kenshin 2023 anime has been released on Thursday, Aug 24, 2023. The episode title or preview has not been shown.

2. Episode 8 Speculations

Sagara will take Kenshin to a gambling restaurant in episode 8 of Rurouni Kenshin 2023, titled “Beauty on the Run.”

As the title of the episode hints, a new character will be introduced. She will show up in front of Kenshin and Sagara and ask for their help dealing with an evil industrialist.

The industrialist goes by the name Takeda Kanryu. The girl will carry a lot of mysteries with her, and it will be the beginning of a new arc. Kenshin and Sagara will take her home, causing some confusion and funny instances.

3. Episode 7 Recap

Kurogasa abducts Kaoru and waits for his arrival at a secluded place. He tells Kaoru that he faced Kenshin during the Bakumatsu war, and seeing his abilities, he wasn’t able to gain the courage to fight him.

However, the present Battosai has lost his anger and edge. Kurogasa can easily defeat him now. So, he abducted Kaoru to bring back the old Battosai in Kenshin.

Kenshin shows up at midnight. He seems different than usual. The two swordsmen engage in a battle. Kenshin is able to read Kurogasa’s moves, but the latter injures him with a surprise attack.

Kenshin is injured. Kurogasa is not impressed and says he still wants Kenshin to get angrier. He uses his paralysis on Kaoru, making it difficult for her to breathe.

Kenshin attacks Kurogasa so fast that the latter is unable to react. He uses his hypnosis on himself to increase his strength. Kenshin vows to kill him and tells him no amount of technique will stop him from doing so.

Keshin takes the stance for a Battoujutsu attack. Kurogasa rushes ahead, knowing that he will win if he dodges the attack. He is successful in dodging, but Kenshin attacks him with the sheath of the blade and breaks his elbow.

Kenshin prepares to slay him. Kaoru is not ready to accept that, but Kenshin is determined to kill Kurogasa to free Kaoru. Kaoru breaks the hypnosis and stops Kenshin from killing him.

Kurogasa gets up and stabs himself with his sword. He reveals to Kenshin that the politicians hired him as they can’t act like old times to enjoy their power and slay people like they want for their benefit.

Before dying, he tells Kenshin that a Battosai can only live till he kills, and Kenshin can’t continue his life as a Rurouni. Kenshin thanks Kaoru for stopping him at the right time.

He firmly resolves to show Kurogasa how a Hitokiri like him will live the life of a Rurouni who refuses to kill.

5. About Rurouni Kenshin

It is a Japanese manga series penned and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1994 to 1999. A TV anime adaptation was also broadcast to 1996 to 1998, and it even has an anime film along with numerous video projects.

The English manga version was published by Viz Media, and the English anime version was released by Media Blasters.

The story revolves around a former assassin who, after going against the feudal government, changed his name to Himura Kenshin and changed into a wandering swordsman who protects the people of Japan. He made a vow to never take another life.
