Support for Red Dead Online to Tail off as Rockstar Focuses on GTA 6

It was known for quite some time that Rockstar always prioritized other projects over Red Dead Online. Fans would complain over the internet that the title felt “abandoned” and ask Rockstar to care for it just like it does for GTA online.

However, it looks like all the whining fell on deaf ears as today, the company finally took the inevitable next step by confirming it’d be winding down Red Dead Online’s development.

Through its official website, Rockstar announced that it would be focusing its resources on developing GTA 6. As a result, Red Dead Online won’t be receiving any more “major themed content updates.”

While this is unquestionably a sad day for enthusiasts who like to saddle up a horse and wander around an enriched Wild West, it does not mean that Red Dead Online is dying.

Rockstar assured enthusiasts that it’d still support the online game by enhancing its existing modes and adding seasonal special events. But this is as far as it goes for RDO this year.

Looking at the injustice that Red Dead Online has been subject to, mind wanders to how well GTA Online is doing in terms of frequent updates. Despite the development of the next mainline entry in the GTA series, Grand Theft Auto Online is not getting mistreated by any means.

Its development is still going strong, with “new gameplay” and community-requested quality of life updates set to arrive in the coming weeks.

This stark difference between both online games is devastating to see. But given how GTA online has been helping Rockstar rake in a truckload of cash, and the studio has to “exceed players’ expectations” with the next GTA, the business side took over, and the least profitable game lost.
