Riverdale Season 7 Sneak Peek Takes Us Back to the 1950s

A new sneak peek video offers a short glimpse into the upcoming season 7 of The CW’s popular teen drama, Riverdale. Season 7 will be set in the 1950s, and the sneak peek reveals the opening sequence of the upcoming season.

Season 7 will be the final season of Riverdale, which has been on since 2017. The series is a reboot of the iconic characters from the Archies comics, and features an ensemble cast including KJ Apa, Lily Reinheart, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, and Madelaine Petsch.

The season 6 finale ended on an explosive note, when Cheryl Blossom used her supernatural powers to divert a comet that would otherwise have destroyed the town of Riverdale.

Though she successfully saves the city, Cheryl accidentally ends up transporting everyone back in time into the 1950s. As of now, no one seems to have any memory of their previous life in the 2000s, apart from Jughead Jones.

To celebrate Entertainment Weekly’s coverage of the upcoming Riverdale season 7, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared a small portion of the opening scene of the season 7 premiere on his official Instagram account.

The clip begins with someone playing “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and His Comets on a jukebox, which typically hints at the time it is set in. The video then introduces our beloved characters in their new avatars in a typical Hollywood retro style.

Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones is the only one who understands what’s going on and therefore looks flabbergasted and dumbfounded. Later, Jughead’s voiceover explains that they’re now in 1955.

The characters look pretty similar to the original characters from the comics for a change. For instance, Jughead is seen with his iconic crown which he is always seen wearing in the comics. Veronica too looks similar to her avatar from the Archies comics.

The sneak peek clip also confirms the return of most of the major characters in the series, including Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Cheryl, Toni, Kevin, and Tabitha. The gang will continue to hang out in Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe even in the retro era, since the sneak peek video introduces them in the exact same spot.

The final season of Riverdale will also be more grounded and focus largely on character development, compared to its previous seasons. But to focus on character growth, the characters will have to regain their memory at one point or the other so all of them can get the much-needed closure.

No official release date has been announced for Riverdale season 7. However, we can expect it to arrive sometime in Spring 2023. Hopefully, fans will not have to wait too long to be transported into the 1950s.

About Riverdale

Based on a story from the popular Archies Comics, the 2017 Netflix drama Riverdale is centered on an innocent, small town of the same name.

It follows a group of high school students who are shocked by the death of a classmate, Jason Blossom. Together they unravel the secrets of Riverdale and who killed Jason.

Cole Sprouse’s grungy Jughead is the show’s narrator and school reporter who almost acts like its ‘Gossip Girl’ — documenting the characters’ lives and filling in the blanks for us.
