Shucks! Arcane S2 Is Not Coming In 2023! RG CEO Gives a Release Update

Arcane: League of Legends was hands down one of 2021’s best shows! It even made a record for being the first streaming series at the Emmys to win the Outstanding Animated Program award. Fans have eagerly awaited season 2 since it was confirmed in November 2021.

Updates on the upcoming season have been rare, but Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent has given us one after years of silence. But it might not be the update you’d wished for.

In an interview with Bilibilii (via WIN.gg), the CEO explained how season 1 reached an unprecedented level of success, and for the studio to level with that standard, if not outdo it, season 2 will take an indefinite time to land on Netflix.

Arcane

[Quote] I just watched the third episode of Season 2 before my flight to China. We’re making progress on it. It’s not ready yet. There are two reasons for that: you want the quality, we just don’t want to rush, and that takes time, which is a good reason.

The bad reason is that, honestly, we didn’t know if Season 1 would be a success. So we didn’t start Season 2 until after. We didn’t know. If I’d known [Arcane was going to be successful], we could have started Season 2 way earlier, but we didn’t know, so we kind of waited a bit, and so now we’re paying the price.

So, for those who expected Fortiche and RG to drop the second season on Netflix this year, sorry for dashing your hopes. After the heated clash between Vi, Jinx, & Caitlyn, and Silco, the latter’s emotional death, and Jinx taking a shot at the council deciding Zaun’s independence, I’m just as disappointed to deliver this news as you are reading it.

But to get an even better season 2 than season 1, we must sacrifice and let the studios have whatever time they need to deliver another instalment of the masterful steampunk animation series.
