A Deadpool Christmas Movie Was on The Cards, Says Ryan Reynolds

In a recent interview with The Big Issue, Ryan Reynolds recalled details of the rejected script of a Deadpool Christmas Movie.

Reynolds has been critically acclaimed for his role as Merc with a Mouth in the original Deadpool movie. The actor/producer/co-writer revealed exciting details about the future of the Deadpool franchise in the interview.

After a lot of buzz around the Deadpool movies, the franchise went into limbo after Disney acquired Fox. Reynolds revealed that he co-wrote a Deadpool Christmas movie along with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, but it was buried after the Disney-Fox merger.

He talked about his desire to do something with the script in the future. Read what he said below:

Four years ago, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox, and it never got made. Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.

The thought of a potential Christmas version of Deadpool shouldn’t surprise the fans after Once Upon a Deadpool’s release in 2018. It was a watered-down version of The Princess Bride with its Fred Savage, bringing the rating down to a PG-13 to cater to the children.

The movie got mixed reviews from both fans and critics. Much of the criticism was about the lack of original film’s essence because of its rating.

For Reynolds, it was a win-win situation, though. He had only agreed to do a PG-13 version of his character because Fox had decided to donate $1 to the “F_ _k Cancer” campaign for every ticket sold.

The $51 million collection of the movie provided a sizeable donation to the charity.

With Reynolds showing interest in reviving the scrapped Deadpool Christmas script, it seems plausible that we could get this movie in the future.

The actor/producer seemed devoted to making the character’s future as exciting as possible. He even alluded to bringing back Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine in a potential crossover of epic proportions.

It will be interesting to see if a Christmas-based Deadpool movie would diverge from the canon comic book plots and create a classic of its own. Whatever happens, we hope it is R-rated so that the creators are not shackled.

In the meantime, the audience can look forward to watching Deadpool 3, releasing on November 8, 2024.
