Asa and Fami enter the detention center to save Denji in chapter 157 of Chainsaw Man, titled “College Fund.”

Asa’s presence was expected in the last chapter, but Fami’s presence was unexpected. They both showed up with different motives but the same goal. Fami has taught Asa that they will have to beat Chainsaw Man in order to save him (don’t exactly know what it means).

They enter the facility with the help of some weapons bought by Asa. Yoru’s strength has significantly increased thanks to the increasing fear of war. With all her strength, Asa’s luck also accompanied her, landing her in trouble at the end of the chapter.

It is time when we finally see Fami using her powers. I have been dying to see her use her powers to fight some enemies. Till now, we have only seen her using her brain to manipulate and turn things in her favor. 

She will free Denji most probably by the end of the next chapter. We can expect some major reveals and strong villains to appear in the next chapter. All this won’t be fun without another devil showing up to fight them.

We learned in the previous chapter that the center is also keeping the leaders of the Chainsaw Man church. It was thought that the church had been taken down, but it looks like the government has some other plans.

4. Chapter 157 Recap

Asa and Fami stand in front of the detention center in school uniforms. Asa asks her the reason for wearing a school uniform. Fami replies that wearing the uniform makes it easier for them to infiltrate. 

Yoru asks Fami the location where Chainsaw Man is being kept. She tells her he is underground and destroying the entrance is their only way. She assigns the job of destroying the entrance to Asa.

Asa confirms their plan before moving ahead. She asks Fami whether beating Chainsaw Man will really save him, and the latter replies positively. Asa thinks that it is now her time to save Chainsaw Man.

Asa and Fami move towards the main gate. The guards observing them pull out the guns to shoot them up. However, the guns start firing at the gate instead of the two girls. 

It is Asa’s gun, presumably bought from all her savings and other sources. In reality, the gun is something made by Yoru using her growing powers. The gate to the center opens up. 

All the security personnel are altered. A lot of their weapons have stopped responding. One of the guards recognizes Asa from the camera and suspects she is there to free the Chainsaw Man church members who are being kept underground.

Fami tells Asa that she will have to engage with enemies directly from here on as they won’t be able to use the facility’s weapons. Asa tells her she should fight instead of her as she has only one arm. 

Fami calls herself Asa’s trump card, which will only be used at last. They hide as some security personnel pass through the corridors. Fami tells Asa to be cautious, as a single mistake can kill her. 

Unfortunately, Asa trips and falls down, pulling all attention towards her. The guards immediately come into action, forcing Fami to take charge of the situation.

Chainsaw Man is a manga series by Tatsuki Fujimoto that was serialized from December 2018-2020 and returned in July 2022 with a second part. The series also received an anime series by MAPPA.

The manga’s plot revolves around Denji, an orphaned boy who has to work as a devil hunter to make a living and pay off his father’s debt.

However, his pet devil, Pochita is killed on a mission. Denji wakes up to realize he and Pochita have become a single being, Chainsaw Man. If he does not want to get killed, he has to join the government and continue hunting demons.
