Another new anime project is on its path to join the ongoing expansion of the ‘Rascal Does Not Dream’ franchise.

When ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai’ was released in 2018, the anime adaptation took the world by storm. Due to its popularity, this anime spawned a special sequel film and has since returned with two more film projects that explore subsequent storylines.

It was announced that ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid’ anime will adapt the “University Student Arc” next.

The next anime instalment, which centers on the “University Arc,” attempts to explore the college years of the characters in greater detail.

The original character designer for the franchise Keeji Mizoguchi, drew an illustration. It hints at Mai Sakurajima’s character development during this period.

The first part of ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid’ opened in Japan on December 1, 2023 and debuted at #4 in its opening weekend. The film sold 119,000 tickets to earn about 163 million yen (approximately US$11.12 million) in its first three days.

The sequel anime project adapts the eighth and ninth novels of ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out,’ and ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid.’

‘Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid’ is a 2023 Japanese animated romantic drama film based on the ninth volume of the light novel series ‘Rascal Does Not Dream,’ written by Hajime Kamoshida and illustrated by Keeji Mizoguchi.

CloverWorks produced the film and serves as a sequel to the anime films ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl’ and ‘Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out.’
