Benchmarks Released for Radeon 780M iGPU with Ryzen 9 7940HS Gaming

The Ryzen 9 Pro 7940HS benchmarks were leaked on the Ashes of Singularity database. That is where the unreleased iGPU Radeon 780M was first spotted.

The Radeon 780M has now been benchmarked and tested by ETA Prime who got their hands on the Phoenix Ryzen 9 7940HS APU-powered 2023 ASUS TUF A15. It has shown consistent high-end performance as expected without overclocking across several AAA titles like Cyberpunk, CSGO, GTA V, Forza Horizon 5, Fortnite, and Doom Eternal.

The iGPU 780M is based on the RDNA 3 architecture. When coupled with the Zen 4 Phoenix Pro 7940HS APU, it is expected to deliver best-in-class performance.

The 8-core 16-thread CPU comes with a base clock of 4.0GHz and boost of 5.2GHz and a total of 40MB total cache memory. The iGPU has 12 Computer Units operating at 2800MHz.

The gaming benchmarks for this combination, as expected, did not disappoint. The ASUS TUF A15(2023 Version) comes with 32GB of DDR5-5200MHz memory, tuned to run at 5600MHz.

A stress test by Furmark revealed that the GPU on the chip was pulling 45W of power. As per the 3DMark Time Spy benchmarks, the CPU scored 11453 points. The GPU clocked up 2830 points.

And this was expected, even without overclocking beyond the 45W power limit. With a little bit of tuning the iGPU can easily score above 3000 points in the same test.

The games that were tested are:

  • CSGO at High preset runs at over 100FPS, well into the 150+ range.
  • GTA V at 1080p and very high preset, averages around 60-70 FPS.
  • Forza Horizon 5 at 1080p High Settings yields over 60 FPS and reaches close to the 100 FPS mark.
  • Fortnite at 1080p medium also hits 70FPS easily.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 at medium or low preset runs at 60FPS.

The same GPU when using AMD’s in-house upscaling technology FSR in performance mode also averages 106 FPS at 1080p in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

ETA Prime also mentioned that they were able to run the 780M at 3GHz clock speed, as previously intended, before being axed by AMD to 2800MHz. This was using an APU tuning facility in Cyberpunk 2077.

What these benchmarks mean is that the CPU-iGPU combination is way ahead of many discrete GPUs. This means that users gain in battery life and really decent FPS using FSR technology.

With AMD’s 7040 Phoenix lineup coming out soon this month, players must keep an eye out to get the best deals on this very powerful CPU-iGPU combination.
