Primus 101: Everything You need to Know About the Creator of the Transformers

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts introduces Primus, the creator of the Transformers, to the live-action series.

The Transformers franchise has expanded its characters and stories since its inception in the 1980s, featuring some of the most iconic figures in the live-action films. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the seventh installment in the live-action series, brings new characters and factions from the Transformers lore to the screen.

The film showcases the Maximals, the beast-like Autobots, and the Terrorcons, a new threat to Earth. It also mentions Primus, the original source of the Transformers, for the first time in a live-action film. This could set up the plot for future Transformers films.

1. Primus Created the Transformers

Primus is a godlike entity in the Transformers universe, existing since the dawn of creation. He is a benevolent force that manifests in different forms across multiple realities and dimensions. He acts as the ultimate protector against any evil that threatens the galaxy.

He is also the creator of the Transformers, the sentient robotic species that originate from Cybertron. The origin of the Transformers is closely tied to the nature of Cybertron itself, which is more than just a planet.

Primus was once a powerful being who fought for the good of the universe. He decided to use his godlike abilities to transform himself into the planet Cybertron, which became the home of the Transformers. The Transformers were born from the surface of Cybertron, and they were essentially extensions of Primus himself.

They inherited his sense of justice and duty, and they traveled across the galaxy to fight for the welfare of all planets. The spark that gives life and consciousness to every Transformer is a piece of Primus’ life force. All the sparks together form the Allspark, which is the source of all Transformer life.

2. The Connection Between Unicron and Primus

Primus had an evil counterpart named Unicron, who was his twin brother and his eternal nemesis. Unicron – also known as the Chaos-Bringer – wanted to conquer the universe and consume everything in his path. He is also the main villain in Rise of the Beasts.

He aimed to destroy the universe and create a state of chaos where he would be the only survivor. Primus opposed Unicron’s ambitions and swore to stop him. The Transformers often battled against Unicron and his followers, who were corrupted versions of the robotic race.

Unicron sometimes manipulated other beings to serve his agenda, as seen in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. This led to clashes between Primus’ creations, the Transformers, and the evil forces allied with Unicron.

Unicron has appeared in person in some live-action films, such as Transformers: The Last Knight and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, but Primus has only been represented by Cybertron.

3. The Connection Between Optimus Prime and Primus

Optimus Prime shares a name and a bond with Primus-the God and creator of the Transformers. As all Transformers are descendants of Primus, Optimus Prime is one of his children.

However, Optimus Prime has a closer relationship with his creator than the other Autobots, because of his role as their leader. This role is connected to an aspect of Primus’ life force.

The Matrix of Leadership is a powerful artifact that belongs to the leader of the Autobots. In many versions of the Transformers franchise, Optimus Prime has wielded this Matrix.

This confirms Prime as the leader of the Autobots and also gives him access to the life force of Primus. While all Transformers are children of Primus, Optimus Prime acts as an agent of his God’s will, fighting against the Decepticons, Terrorcons, and any other evil being that serves Unicron, the evil twin of Primus.

4. History of Primus in the Previous Films in the Franchise

Primus has been alluded to several times in the Transformers live-action franchise, including Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. However, Rise of the Beasts is the first live-action Transformers movie to name Primus explicitly. Nevertheless, the franchise has still referenced the God indirectly through his connection to Cybertron and the Allspark.

Cybertron has played a vital role in almost all Transformers films. In 2007’s Transformers, the first film in the live-action series, the Autobots planned to use the Allspark to restore Cybertron. As the Allspark is Primus’ life force, they wanted to bring Primus back to life after Cybertron was ravaged by civil war.

Cybertron also appears in the third Transformers film, Dark of the Moon. The opening scene of the third film takes place on Cybertron, which means Primus appears in his planetary form. The same is true for Bumblebee, which begins on Cybertron as well, thus featuring Primus.

Primus is also referenced several times in the second live-action film, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The Fallen himself mentions Primus as his creator. Moreover, the Primes of the past appear to Optimus who is resurrected by the Matrix, which means Primus’ life force merged with him.

In Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the latest live-action film, Primus is named for the first time. Optimus Primal, the leader of the Maximals, tells Optimus Prime that he is a chosen one. This implies Prime’s role as the leader of the Autobots.

Unicron is also the main antagonist of the film, with his goal being to wipe out Earth and then the rest of the universe. This would endanger Cybertron as well, which means Transformers: Rise of the Beasts depicts the direct clash between Primus and Unicron that will likely continue in future films.
