Previously excluded mini-game makes its way back to Last of Us Part 2 Remaster

  • Developer Naughty Dog has released a clip with developers’ commentary ahead of the release of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.
  • The Clip shows Ellie looking over a group of kids playing a game where one pretends to be a Clicker and has to tag the others.
  • There is also a mini-game of Clicker Tag wherein players have to play as Ellie with diminished vision and snag a kid running away.

Since Last of Us Part 2’s Remaster was announced, fans have been excited about all those unreleased parts that did not make it to the original title, which the developers will include in the Remaster.

A previously unreleased clip shows part of the Jackson level where Ellie interacts with a group of children playing a game pretending to be clickers. As the Director’s Commentary narrates, this gives rise to the previously unreleased mini-game wherein Ellie has her visibility significantly reduced as a clicker and has to capture a child running away.

This is quite an exciting detail, the kind of backstories the players expected from the Last of Us 2 Remaster. The developers had promised new unreleased levels and developer’s commentary, and they seem to be delivering on their promises.

In the clip, the kids pretending to be clickers show how the infection are taken seriously in the in-game world and how they affect the lives of children, which culminates in the form of a game.

As part of the mini-game, Ellie chases faint silhouettes of kids in complete darkness, which, coupled with the backing tracks, gives a total sense of immersion, something The Last of Us is famous for.

The Left Behind DLC of Last of Us had scattered moments like these as Ellie and Riley explore the abandoned Boston Mall in-game. However, the sequel, i.e., Last of Us Part 2, had a lot of brutality and grief.

The new director’s commentary will ensure that players know the creative choices that went on behind the scenes, leading to certain levels and mini-games being excluded from the final version of Last of Us Part 2. Arriving on January 19th, the Last of Us Part 2 Remaster will be refreshing.
