Picard Series Finale Explains Why Borg Won’t Appear in Star Trek Again

Remember seeing Star Trek: Discovery and hearing no mention of the Borg? The same threat that had terrorized the Federation and Earth for countless years? Well, Picard series finale just resolved the mystery of the unmentioned Borg Collective.

The season 3 finale, “The Last Generation,” marked the end of the failing original Borg collective when the USS Enterprise-D led by Picard wiped them out. That’s why there was no mention of the terrible enemy in Star Trek: Discovery during the 32nd century.

At first, the lack of mention led the audience to believe that they were no longer a threat, but the other Star Trek show gave no explanation for this new development. Of course, they should have been mentioned during a time when the Federation couldn’t warp travel, but now Picard explains why that wasn’t the case.

The Destruction of the Borg Collective

Introduced in Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Borg has been the biggest threat to the federation through the 24th century. However, Borg Queen’s most desperate efforts couldn’t change the fact that her race was dying after Admiral Kathryn Janeway’s poisoning.

But if you remember, there was a more peaceful quadrant of the Borg introduced in season 2 of Star Trek: Picard. Led by Dr. Agnes Jurati, the benevolent tribe was led by the hybrid Borg Queen and became allies with the Federation after sprouting from an alternate timeline.

While it is possible this faction of the Borg survived, there is no mention of them in Star Trek: Discovery, meaning nearly eighty decades after Picard, they were wiped out as well.

Their fate might be featured in the upcoming Star Trek: Legacy.
