‘Phantom of the Idol’ Unveils a Character Trailer for the Inept Protagonist

If the word “unmotivated” was a person, it would be Yuuya from the Kami Kuzu☆Idol anime. He would struggle with almost any job with his half-hearted efforts, but he decided to debut as an idol, an occupation where even 100% enthusiasm doesn’t always pay off.

The outcome was as expected, fans hate him, his company and manager are tired, and he is dragging down his partner. This good-for-nothing guy will get another chance at reviving his popularity, but does he really deserve it?

The Phantom of the Idol anime will premiere on July 2, 2022, with a truly hopeless protagonist. If you want to know more about him in detail, check out the new character trailer that will make you face-palm in disappointment.

Yuuya’s first words in the teaser were him wondering when the month’s check would hit. That is basically his entire outlook. He even says, “I thought I could make money just because I had a good face.” Not many people are as delusional as him.

So, of course, the company is done with him and ready to cut him loose. In this crucial moment enters the ghost of a super-enthusiastic idol, Asahi. Now Yuuya’s only way to survive in the cut-throat industry is to take her help.

In the new visual for Phantom of the Idol, you can see Yuuya, his partner, the manager, and the pink-haired ghost girl.

As much as Phantom of the Idol reminds me of Uramichi Oniisan, Yuuya is hands-down the more pathetic one here. Will he be able to revive himself in the limelight, or will he remain a fool who can’t do anything without a ghost’s help?

Moreover, what will he do if he gets ghosted by Asahi?

About Phantom of the Idol

Phantom of the Idol (Kami Kuzu Idol) is a supernatural comedy manga by Hijiki Isoflavone. It began serialization in December 2017 in Ichijinsha’s Comic Zero Sum and has been licensed by Kodansha Comics.

The story is about the lazy Yuuya Niyodo, who’s a part of the idol duo ZINGS. One day after a sloppy performance, Yuuya encounters Asahi Mogami, a cheerful female idol. The twist is that Asahi has been dead for a year, and this turns Yuuya’s life upside-down.
