The real action in episode 5 begins after Ares asks the iconic trio to retrieve his shield from Hephestus, the God of fire.

Inside the Watershed Amusement Park built by Hephestus, Percy sacrifices himself and gets trapped in God’s golden chair to get the shield. However, Annabeth doesn’t run away with the shield and stays back to help his friend. This is the first time we see an ounce of softness inside Annabeth’s heart for Percy.

Annabeth tries to convince Hephestus that they don’t crave glory or power and are only fighting for what’s right and needs to be done. Annabeth’s speech thaws the God of fire because he finds his motivation similar to the kids, and he lets them leave.

They bring back Ares’ shield, and he keeps his promise. He arranges a safe passage for Percy, Grover, and Annabeth to meet Hermes. He also tells them that if they are smart enough, Hermes will help them get to Hades’ realm to finish their mission.

2. Grover’s Mindgames with The God of War

While Percy and Annabeth are busy bartering their lives to retrieve Ares’ shield, Grover is busy trying to strike up a conversation with Ares. However, he is actually extracting information from the God about the Lightning Bolt Thief.

The satyr slyly suggests that one of the Godlings might’ve stolen the Bolt on Hades’ orders, but Ares strongly negates the possibility.

Midway through the conversation, the God of war realizes that he’s spoken too much and decides to shut up. However, the damage has already been done, and Grover has a name in mind!

Got the rare talent to binge an entire show in a single sitting just like that. Although a sucker for psychological thrillers, no bias for any genre when it comes to a good story. A living proof that Netflix and chill is not a myth!
