Transformers 8 & 9 Confirmed: Rise of the Beasts Births New Trilogy

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts opened to a very receptive box office and is already looking to earn $155 million globally on its opening weekend. With such a positive reception in the first few days, the film is bound to be a success in the eyes of the general audience despite mixed reviews from critics.

Even our usual group of commentators can’t deny that the Steven Caple Jr. film is an improvement from all the pre-Bumblebee projects in the franchise. So, the reboot was a good idea, and now we might be looking at a trilogy already! Even before the worldwide premiere of Rise of the Beasts, Paramount confirmed two sequels to the latest film.

After Bumblebee rebooted the film series in 2011, Rise of the Beasts is the first big project in the franchise. One would think the success of the 2023 film will dictate prospects for any sequels. However, this only highlights the studio’s confidence in the most recent Transformers film, and their decision to carry it forward with Transformers 8 and 9 is a positive sign for the IP.

The studio has not attached any names or release windows to the following sequels despite the confirmation. We don’t know if Steven Caple Jr. will return to direct or if Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback will return as Noah and Elena in Transformers 8 & 9.

However, chances for both the director and the core actors returning seem high since the studio wants the upcoming films to form a trilogy with the 2023 film. The speedy delivery of the news that the two sequels are in development promises a faster proceeding into production. Still, I feel the need to state that you shouldn’t expect Transformers 8 & 9 before 2025 and 2027, respectively.

Though this is exciting news, I remain cautionary. It is best not to count your eggs before they hatch – if Transformers: Rise of the Beasts does not perform to the expected standards, the studio can still scrap the upcoming franchise projects.

Transformers 8 & 9 are not the only projects to be confirmed in the rebooted franchise after Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts. Paramount has also promised a season 2 of Transformers: EarthSpark and an animated prequel featuring Cyberton, Megatron, and Optimus Prime’s origins, titled Transformers: One, coming next year.
