Osamu Kobayashi, the person who gave us classics like Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad and Paradise Kiss, lost his two-year battle against kidney cancer.
He created shows that fans still adore, and it’s heartbreaking that we won’t be seeing any more of his work. His death was a grim reminder of what the loss of life really means.
Osamu Kobayashi passed away on April 16th, 2021, after a two-year-long battle with kidney cancer. He posted his final message on Twitter before leaving us all.
Osamu Kobayashi, 57 years old, last nightEnglish Translation, Twitter Translate
I left for heaven.
He’s been fighting kidney cancer for two years, but unfortunately he’s exhausted …
I regret that there were still things I wanted to do and works I wanted to make.
I’m sure I’ll be reborn again and make a good work!
Adios. From the eternal 23 years old
The message was tweeted by someone else through Kobayashi’s account as he mentioned in it that he passed away ‘last night.’
He also revealed that he had been battling kidney cancer for two years now, and he couldn’t do it anymore. He said that he was ‘exhausted’ now and had regrets as he wanted to do more.
Other than classics like Beck and Paradise Kiss, Kobayashi also directed a few episodes of shows like Naruto Shippuden and Dororo.
Besides directing, Kobayashi also made illustrations and storyboards of shows like Lupin the 3rd part IV, Dororo, Garo: Crimson Moon, and much more.
His passing away made us realize how much we take life for granted. Even after knowing that he didn’t have much time left due to his illness, he still never let his work suffer.
Strength and condolences to his family and friends who had to go through this in the current circumstances.
We will be missing him a lot, and may he rest in peace.
