America’s Favorite Quiz Show may have run out of new episodes amid the coronavirus production hiatus, but it will soon return with some of its best moments from the last 36 years.
Producers of the game show have planned a four-week special airing of some of Jeopardy!’s best moments.
Host Alex Trebek has even recorded some new show openings for the same, from the confines of his homes, of course.
Sharing a video on the new retrospective series, Trebek talked about the episodes that will be featured and his own health. Trebek has been battling stage four pancreatic cancer since March 2019.
According to the official press release, Jeopardy! will open the vault for a four-week retrospective series starting July 20.
This will be the first time, that the long-running successful quiz show will dig deep into its archives looking for memorable contestants, exciting moments, and unique tournaments.
It is said to start from the show’s very first episode, which aired September 10, 1984.
“What is incredible about Jeopardy! is that it has historical importance while remaining culturally relevant today,” said Jeopardy! Executive Producer Mike Richards. “I know our fans will love the nostalgia while still enjoying the gameplay. A lot has changed over the years – the set, the pace of the game…the mustache! – but the ability to play along is timeless.”
After a thorough combing of nearly 8,000 episodes, a select 20 have been shortlisted as the most compelling shows in the series’ history, many of which have not been seen since their first airing.
These will be used to fill up the slot of the game show after it ran out of new episodes in June.
