The story of Ouken’s growth and the origin of his powers are finally revealed in episode 4 of Ousama Ranking: Yuuki no Takarabako, titled “Immortality and the Three Brothers.”
The king’s three brothers grew up together and trained together; however, being the children of a mad king proved to have its effects. Overcome by the violence and atrocities committed by their father, they decide to overthrow him for the sake of the Kingdom.
The power vested in the third son, Ouken, completely consumes him from the inside, and his father’s influence continues even way after his death. It is up to his brothers to put an end to his rampage.

1. Episode 5 Speculation:
This episode revealed a lot of exciting stories about Ouken and their childhood, and how they had to overthrow their father to bring peace to the Kingdom. However, the atrocities could not be stopped even after Desha was king.
The next episode may show us more about Desha’s reign as the king, how he tries to fix everything that was committed before, and maybe even some glimpses at Ouken in the prison cell as he waits and abides by his time until his eventual release by Miranjo.

3. Recap of Episode 4:
Ouken’s turn to the dark side is about to be revealed, with his father’s questionable research becoming a prime suspect. Ouken, while young, was extremely weak and unable to keep up with his brothers, and he desperately tried to become stronger.
The town was also under attack as multiple ogres and monsters rampaged through the area, but the royal guard, Prince Ouken, and the others managed to hold them off. However, the atrocities they commit in war are not so different from the ones their father is committing.
Despa and Ouken manage to get into the castle and kill their father. In his final moment, he tries to take over Ouken’s body but is thrown away. Desha has been crowned the new king but is still frustrated that his Kingdom continues to fight and indulge in war crimes.
Ouken discovers his new immortality and slowly becomes consumed by his new superpower. Completely losing his humanity along with it, he becomes emotionless and numb to the guilt of killing, and he realizes it too as he visits his two brothers in the castle.
Sobbing on his knees at the feet of Desha, he doesn’t want to lose who he is because of this superpower. His second-in-command, Fren, has also fled from the underground due to this change, and Ouken slowly becomes even more consumed by it, making the superpower define who he is.
As he tries to go to bed at night, he keeps hallucinating visions of his father calling out to him and murders a guard amid his delusions. The smell of blood intrigues him, and he becomes obsessed with death and the moments before it. Desha confronts him in his rampage and takes him as his sole responsibility.

Ōsama Ranking (Ranking of Kings) is a Japanese comedy manga series by Sōsuke Tōka. It has been serialized online via Echoes’ user-submitted Manga Hack website since May 2017. An anime television series adaptation by Wit Studio premiered in October 2021.
The story centers around Bojji, a deaf, powerless prince who cannot even wield a children’s sword. As the firstborn son, he strives hard and dreams of becoming the world’s greatest king.
However, people mutter about him behind his back as “a good-for-nothing prince” and “no way he can be king.” Bojji is able to make his first-ever friend, Kage, a literal shadow on the ground who somehow understands Bojji well.
The story follows Bojji’s coming-of-age as he meets various people in his life, starting with his fateful encounter with Kage.
