Lucy Hale Confirms Original PLL Cast Won’t Return For The Reboot

Lucy Hale shuts down rumors of the original Pretty Little Liars cast returning for the series reboot titled “Original Sin.” But she does tease the new show’s tone.

Original Sin has been ordered as a 10-episode series for HBO Max. We won’t be returning to Rosewood, as it is set in Millwood, PA. The different location also means that it will be a brand-new story featuring new liars.

The main cast includes Chandler Kinney, Maia Reficco, Bailee Madison, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Alex Aiono, and Mallory Bechtel.

Episode one is titled Spirit Week, and it is rumored that the main cast will be threatened by an “A”nonymous adversary who wants to make them pay for a sin committed by their parents a few decades ago.

So, it seems like fans will have two mysterious to tackle — trying to uncover who “A” is (which let’s admit it, is the whole appeal of the franchise) as well as piecing together what the Millwood parents had done.

While initial rumors led fans to believe that the original liars would make a comeback, the new storyline has subdued those claims. Still, can one hope to see them in a fan-service cameo?

No dice, according to Lucy Hale:

As far as I know, no one from the original is involved in any way. From what I hear, it’s going to be really dark.

I will have to agree with Hale on the tone, since Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is taking over Original Sin as well. He is known to create great set-ups when it comes to all things supernatural, creepy, and teens.

In a joint statement with co-developer Lindsay Calhoon Bring, Aguirre-Sacasa says that they are major fans of the original, which they took as canon while creating Original Sin, and hence were “leaning into the suspense and horror in this reboot, which hopefully will honor what the fans loved about the hit series.”

As per Aguirre-Sacasa’s Instagram post, filming began in late August:

However, as of yet, the release date remains TBA.

Despite the original cast not returning, Original Sin does have an interesting premise, and fans may give it a go, given how thrilling it is to hear from “A” after four years.
