I. Yukinoshita’s request
Episode 1, titled “In Due Time, the Seasons Change and the Snow Melts,” begins where the last season 2 left off, with Yukinoshita, Yuigahama, and Hachiman in a standoff while Yukinoshita says “My wish is…”.
A long silence passes after that, and Hachiman goes to the vending machine to get soft drinks for everyone.
He thinks that the answer Yukinoshita came up with needs to be spelled out, but a definite answer would spell a disastrous end.
However, he does not want an authenticity that is cold, cruel, and sad.
They finish their drinks while arguing about Hachiman’s useless knowledge of greetings.
While heading home, Yukinoshita opens up about herself to Yui and Hachiman, tells them about wanting to do well on her own, and needs to head back to discuss with her parents after talking things over with her older sister.
Her only request from the other two is that they help her see this through.
II. A brother to a sister as a sister to a brother
The next day Hachiman makes plans with his sister Komachi to take her out to a meal after she is done with her interviews for the day. While on the streets, he runs into Saki and her younger sister Keika at a café.
She invites him to join, and he ends up discussing her plans about trying out for a public university. Komachi soon joins them, and the brother-sister duo ends up bickering in the sweet manner that they always do.
After Saki leaves them to go home, the day goes by as they go shopping and having a meal at home and end up chatting, sitting under the cozy kotatsu.
Komachi soon expresses her sincere gratitude towards her brother and leaves Hachiman in tears. With the heart-warming brother-sister moment, the episode comes to an end.
