Only Murders in the Building Season 2 ended with its finale revealing Bunny’s murderer, introducing a new character, and immediately killing him to lay the groundwork for the latest murder mystery the trio will tackle in Season 3. Before we talk about Season 3, let’s first tackle Season 2.
The murder-mystery comedy premiered Season 2 in June 2022, wrapping up the mystery of Bunny’s murder, investigated and solved by the trio in the finale, ending the second season in August 2022.
The trio followed the murder on their famous podcast, revealing Cinda’s assistant Poppy White, who is actually Becky Butler, as the killer. The same Butler who was supposed to be dead, according to Cinda’s podcast “All Is Not Okay in Oklahoma.”
Mabel, who had more at stake in Season 2 as she was directly involved in the police’s investigation of the murder of Bunny Folger, breathed a sigh of relief along with Oliver and Charles. All seemed right—the true-crime-seeking trio had cleared their names, Mabel had accepted her past and come to terms with the demons of before, and Charles patched things up with Lucy.
But then, one year later, Charles is seen bickering with a new character, none other than the famous Ant-Man star! That’s right, Paul Rudd made his debut in the mystery-comedy, only to be killed off within minutes, which set up the murder that the trio will unravel in Season 3 and hopefully clear Charles’ name.
Who is Paul Rudd playing in the Season 2 finale? Ben Gilroy, an actor part of the Broadway cast, along with Oliver, who finally returns to the stage. After a heated discussion with Charles, who has an ax to grind with Ben telling the new character to “stay away from her” and that Charles knows what Ben did, Ben promptly dies on stage.
Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building will show the trio working hard again to unmask the killer since Oliver and Charles will probably fall under the suspect category this time. Season 3 was renewed in July, mid-airing of Season 2, and we can assume the show will start shooting soon. This will put Season 3’s release in an estimate of the first half of 2023.
