Since its premiere in August 2021, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building has garnered massive critical success and has enjoyed a comfortably high viewership. After solving two murders and clearing their own name from the latest killing, the podcasting trio is set to return to the Arconia in season 3.
While some cast additions have been announced recently, plot details are being kept under wraps. But we finally may have a release date for the upcoming season! Steve Martin, who plays Charles Haden-Savage in the mystery series, just spilled the date on his comedy tour, You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today, with castmate Martin Short.
Variety reported the news, stating the OMITB actor let it slip in an offhanded comment after discussing his recent projects. Oh, the date? Yeah, I was getting to that. If Steve’s slip-up is to be believed, Only Murders in the Building will premiere its latest season on August 8, 2023.
That means the new season will debut on the streaming platform almost a year after the season 2 finale, where Mabel, Charles, & Oliver unveiled Bunny Folger’s murderer. The season 2 finale ended with a year-long time jump to Oliver’s new play’s opening night, where Paul Rudd’s new theatrical character falls dead on stage.
After Oliver’s star mysteriously dies amid his opening dialogue, season 3 will open up with the trio’s crime-solving abilities beyond the Arconia. And maybe they’re not out of trouble yet, as Charles seemed to be in a tense fight with the theater actor before his death. Will he or Oliver be blamed for Ben’s death in the new season?
I am as blank as you are on that question, but I do have other news about season 3. New cast additions besides Paul Rudd include Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada), Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy), and Ashley Park (Emily in Paris). While the two former actors’ roles are unknown, we know Park will play a Broadway actor, Kimber.
Recent photos from the set also featured Selena Gomez’s Mabel Mora in a wedding dress, but her fiance’s identity is unknown. Mabel’s relationship with Oscar and Alice has already ended, so it’s definitely someone new, but who could it be?
