One Piece Film Red Receives Special Award From Japan Academy Film Prizes

On January 11, the Japan Academy Film Prize Association announced that the One Piece Film Red won the Special Award for its music at the 46th Annual Japan Academy Film Prizes. The award ceremony will take place at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo on March 10.

The Special Award is similar to the Chairperson’s Distinguished Service Award and is awarded to a person or group that has achieved outstanding results for the given year.

Ado serves as the singing voice for the character Uta in the film and also performs the film’s theme song “Shinjidai.” From June to August 2022, the film’s “Uta Project” released seven songs that Ado sang for the film.

All the songs feature different composers and have music videos. The composers include Mrs. Green AppleVaundyFAKE TYPE., Yūta OrisakaHiroyuki Sawano, and Motohiro Hata.

A collection of all the songs was released as the Uta no Uta One Piece Film Red album. Yasutaka Nakata does the film’s music composition.

One Piece Film Red has sold over 13.79 million tickets and has earned over 19 billion yen at the Japanese box office as of January 10.

The film has become the franchise’s highest-selling and highest-earning film, in terms of the number of tickets sold as well as yen earned at the box office. The anime is both the #6 all-time highest-earning anime film in Japan and the #9 all-time highest-earning film in Japan.

The film’s director is Goro Taniguchi, and the screenwriter is Tsutomu Kuroiwa. The creator of the One Piece manga Eiichiro Oda served as the executive producer for the film.
