This 900+ chapter series is often regarded as the King of Manga because of it being the highest-grossing manga for a decade.
One Piece released chapter 997 on Sunday, titled “Flames” So, it’s time to discuss the release date, scans, and other details for chapter 998.
1. Chapter 998 Raw Scans, Leaks & Spoilers
Raw scans for the Chapter 998 of the One Piece manga have been released. The title of the upcoming chapter is “Ancient Species.”
The chapter starts with Marco using his medical and devil fruit skills to stop the spread of the virus. Chopper runs into other medical minks who help him hasten the preparation of the antidote.
As the title suggests, the chapter focuses mainly on the Ancient Zoan devil fruit users. Specifically, the chapter reveals the devil fruits of 3 Tobi Roppo members in fights against the Strawhats:
- Franky Vs. Sasaki, who is a user of the Ryuu Ryuu no Mi Model Triceratops.
- Sanji Vs. Black Maria, who is a user of the Kumo Kumo no Mi model Rosamygale Grauvogeli.
- Jinbe Vs. Who’s Who, who is a user of the Neko Neko no Mi model “Saber tooth” or Smilodon.
As Yamato runs away with Momonosuke, they run into a broken statue of a dragon (major foreshadowing). Yamato says that the statue was broken by a man who came a long time ago to defeat Kaido.
From the looks of it, the statue seems to be broken by a fire based attack which leads to the conclusion that Yamato was talking about Ace.

2. Chapter 998 Speculations/Predictions
Chapter 987 officially kicked off the war on Onigashima. With the declaration of an all out war against Kaido, Big Mom, and Orochi, Luffy drew a lot of attention to himself.
Since there is a lot going on at the same time, it is more than likely that we will see parallel storylines instead of just one.
I. Kaido’s Hybrid Form
Chapter 994 ended with the Red Scabbards landing a hefty blow on Kaido’s scar. Kaido’s eyes turned white from pain at the end of this attack. As we can see from Kaido’s previous battles, his Zoan form preference is Dragon -> Human -> Hybrid.
Later in chapter 996, we witnessed Kaido returning to his Human form to overpower the Scabbards. It is just a matter of time before Kaido reveals his strongest form!!
II. O-Tama’s Devil Fruit Prowess
While some people might have forgotten about her, O-Tama still has a big role to play in the upcoming war.
Her devil fruit allows her to have complete control over animals and Zoan devil fruit users who eat “Kibi Dango” made from her cheeks. Coupled with Usopp’s sniping skills, Tama may be able to control a huge chunk of Kaido’s forces against him.
It is more than likely that she was the looming figure behind Robin and Jinbei in chapter 979.
III. The Three Minute Countdown
Chapter 996 revealed that O-Tama hitched a ride on an enemy ship to travel to Onigashima. On the same page, she specifically asks Hihimaru to hold off Page One and Ulti for 3 minutes.
While this can be passed off as nothing, it is very likely that after these three minutes are up, an important reveal will be made. The reveal will probably be related to the enemy ship which Tama boarded.

The chapter picks up where chapter 996 left off. After hearing the voice of a damsel in distress, Sanji rushes off to be the white knight. Unfortunately, it was a trap set by Black Maria’s subordinates. This results in Sanji being captured by Black Maria.
Luffy’s group is still advancing towards the roof. Some Headliners wait for Luffy at the staircase to ambush him, however Luffy makes it to the next floor by using some ladders built by the prisoners from Udon.
The scene shifts to the Performance Floor where Big Mom is flying towards the Roof. Through the hole by which she exits, Zoro notices Kiku’s arm which was cut off by Kaido a few chapters ago. This angers him, which results in him taking down Apoo with a single attack.
Zoro then tosses the antidote to Chopper, who makes himself busy in quickly making antidotes for everyone on the battlefield. Marco finally meets up with the Strawhats as well.
Some strange tremors put everyone on alert. As Yamato tries to help Momonosuke escape Onigashima via a ship, she notices that the sea is gone!!
In a brilliant double page spread, we witness Kaido using his flame clouds to lift Onigashima itself!!! The chapter ends as Kaido begins moving the island towards the Flower Capital!!!!!

Apart from the main storyline in the manga chapters, One Piece also advances the storyline by featuring scenes around the world in the form of cover stories.
