One Piece Chapter 971 Delayed – Manga On One Week Hiatus

One Piece’s manga is currently exploring a very informative flashback about Kozuki Oden’s life and his tragic demise. The flashback was inserted into the story right after Luffy, and his forces went missing before the battle on Onigashima. No more information has been given about Luffy’s whereabouts since.

Recently One Piece, chapter 970, titled “Oden vs. Kaido,” was released, and it announced that there would be no chapter next week. The following One Piece chapter will be released in the Weekly Shonen Jump #12.

The chapter starts with Oden marching into battle accompanied by the Nine Red Scabbards. Before he reaches Kaido’s lair, Oden is confronted by the full force of the Beast Pirates. The entire battle is shown briefly without giving away much information about the Beast Pirates’ true strength.

After cutting through the Beast Pirates, Oden goes for Kaido’s head and lands a devastating attack with his Nitoryu Sword Style that forces Kaido to revert to his human form. This attack, Oden Nitoryu – Togen Totsuka, is also the origin of Kaido’s infamous scar. Right before Oden is about to cut off Kaido’s head, Kurozumi Higurashi uses her Mane Mane no Mi powers to transform into Momonosuke. This distracts Oden for a split second, and Kaido uses this opportunity to strike Oden down with his metal kanabo.

Once Oden falls down, the battle is swiftly won by the Beast Pirates, and the rebelling forces are taken to the prison. The chapter also addresses Oden’s decision to dance naked in the streets of Wano for five years (Fun fact: The writings on Oden’s underwear during his dance are ingredients used to make Oden, the Japanese dish). Kaido had planned this battle out as he knew that five years ago, Oden would’ve won the battle. With Hyogoro’s support, Oden would have been unstoppable, and the Beast Pirates would have been pushed out of Wano.

Even after knowing this, Oden did not regret his decision, which makes us wonder about what Orochi could’ve possibly done to make Oden act this way.

About One Piece:

The man who had acquired everything in this world, the Pirate King, is Gol D. Roger. The final words he said at the execution tower were “My treasures? If you want it, I’ll let you have it. Look for it; I left all of it at that place.” These words sent many to the seas, chasing their dreams, headed toward the Grand Line, in search of One Piece.

Thus began a new age! Seeking to be the greatest pirate in the world, young Monkey D. Luffy also heads toward the Grand Line in search of One Piece. With his diverse crew joining him along the way, consisting of a swordsman, marksman, navigator, cook, doctor, archaeologist, and cyborg-shipwright, this is one memorable adventure.
