‘One Piece’ Ch 1053 Claims Hitetsu’s Hidden Identity as Wano’s Dead Shogun

Who knew that the simple kokeshi doll collector could cause this much chaos among fans? Chapter 1053 of One Piece had quite a few revelations to make before Oda disappeared on a one-month break.

Turns out, Tenguyama Hitetsu, the seemingly unimportant swordsmith is actually Kozuki Sukiyaki, the shogun of Wano who ruled before Orochi and Kaido.

For this long, Sukiyaki was considered dead. His own son, Oden, didn’t know what had happened to his father and had wondered if it was Orochi’s doing.

Sukiyaki had thus remained hidden all these years. It looks like Orochi wasn’t the only one who knew deception, as Sukiyaki has one-upped him.

Oden’s father was known to be a fair ruler who was disappointed with Oden’s violent actions. Now that Wano is under such a tumultuous condition, will he step up as the shogun to bring peace to it again?

Once again, you must bow down to Oda-sensei’s plot and forethinking. He scattered several clues throughout the manga about Sukiyaki’s return. His death was only implied and never confirmed. Hitetsu wears a mask and can’t go to town (maybe because he fears he will be recognized.)

When Hitetsu said he found the kokeshi dolls in an underground chamber, he might have been referring to the place where he had hidden from Orochi.

In the anime, Sukiyaki and Hitetsu have the same voice actors, so we should have seen this coming. Will Sukiyaki reclaim his throne again? Momonosuke is definitely not ready for such a responsibility yet, and the situation at Wano calls for an experienced hand.
