Charmed Reboot S4 Finale Criticism by OG Writer Leads to a Twitter Feud

The reboot series of Charmed season 4’s finale was released on June 10, and the original writers of the series are not satisfied with it.

Curtis Kheel, one of the writers from the original Charmed series that ran from 1998 to 2006 on The WB, criticized the season 4 finale.

The finale saw the new sister trio Macy (Madeleine Mantock), Mel (Melonie Diaz), and Maggie (Sarah Jefferey) discover Halliwell Manor, home of the original sister quartet, Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige.

He showcased his displeasure at the series ending. He gave fans his own version of what might happen in the future, saying that the three sisters (Prue died in season 3) destroyed the trio of imposters, and Piper (Combs) blew up the portal to the alternate dimension, “wishing them well.”

Piper’s dialogue was a dig at the original writers, referenced from the actress Holly Marie Combs’ criticism regarding the reboot since it was even announced.

The new writers did not let the criticism go unanswered. They quote-retweeted Kheel’s tweet, commenting that they had a “no-a**holes hiring policy” as part of their writing team, and took a dig at Kheel and other writers.

They also emphasized that they loved both versions and wanted to create a cohesive universe.

For a classic American fantasy series as Charmed, supporters, and non-supporters for both sides are aplenty. Few fans claim the story was ruined, some say they loved the new one, while some criticized the storytelling.

A few days later, Kheel tweeted a long thread about what hurt him and the original writers the most – not respecting the original work and creators.

He shared that the reboot completely avoided the original Charmed since the first season, and yet took parts of it. He claimed that the finale was “a desperate attempt” to attract fans of the original series.

This is not the first time the original writers or actors have expressed their disappointment with the reboot.

Alyssa Milano, who essayed Phoebe, had commented that she felt disrespected as they were never included in the show in an interview with US Weekly. She’d said,

“I think that ship has sailed. I think that they ruined the possibility of that by the way in which the reboot came down. Like, the fact that we weren’t included from the very beginning. It just felt really disrespectful, you know?”

Meanwhile, Charmed will not be returning with season 5.
