New Story Ideas for DC League of Super-Pets 2 Teased by Director

Director and co-writer of DC League of Super-Pets, Jared Stern, has hinted at story ideas for a potential sequel before the film’s release.

Stern co-wrote the script for the last animated movie in the DC universe along with John Whittington. It is the same duo that previously collaborated on the Lego Batman Movie. Krypto, the super-powered pet of Batman, is featured in this new movie.

Krypto must bring together a team of shelter pets to save the Justice League after they are abducted by Lex Luthor and his guinea pig Lulu.

The movie features a star cast, including Dwayne Johnson as Krypto the Superdog, Vanessa Bayer as PB, Natasha Lyonne as Merton McSnurtle, Diego Luna as Chip, and Kate McKinnon as Lulu. The film is all set to hit theaters on July 29, and the director is already hopeful about the possibility of a sequel.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, the co-writer and director of DC League of Super-Pets hinted at some possible story ideas for the sequel. The suggestions point to the possibility of the sequel being reworked out of storylines cut from the original film if they are lucky enough to make one. Check out his comments below.

We never want to jinx it, but it’s kind of hard not to, especially when you work on something for four years. And like I said, sometimes there was too much, so there’s things that when we took it out, I was like, “But that will be good for a sequel if we ever were so lucky to have one.” So yeah, there definitely is stuff, and there’s a ton of amazing, fun animal characters in the DC canon, and we couldn’t fit all of them into this movie. There are definitely a few that I know people love that are not in this one that I would love to have an appearance, again, if we’re blessed to have another one.

Stern didn’t disclose which animal characters didn’t make the final cut for the DC League of Super-Pets. The cast list does not mention Supergirl or her pet cat, Streaky the Supercat, among others.

The probability of this DC installment getting a sequel will hinge on its revenue at the box office. Animated movies tend to perform well at the box office because they appeal to a larger spectrum of age groups.

Super-Pets is projected to generate $40-60 million in revenue on its opening weekend. Super-Pets has also been welcomed by critics and is sitting at 80% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is only a matter of time before we know how this movie fares with the audience.
