New Haikyu!! Stage Play to Open in Tokyo in August 2023

Haikyu!! is one of the few franchises with a great stage play that has gathered the attention of many. A major chunk of the credit for its success goes to Shoyo Hinata’s actor, Kenta Suga.

While the fandom loves Suga as Shoyo, the actor has taken up a directorial position for the franchise’s new play that was recently announced.

During the Jump Festa ’23 event, it was revealed that the Gekidan Haikyu!!, a new stage play based on the manga, will open in Tokyo in August 2023.

In addition, 15-year-old actor Kenshiro Kato will play the role of Shoyo Hinata in the new play. Suga also posted a video discussing and announcing his position as director.

Suga thanks everyone who loved him as Shoyo in the plays and hopes they’ll love the new production he directed. The actor seemed excited to reveal the stage play officially and his role as the director.

Meanwhile, Kenshiro Kato states that he has created his own Shoyo after taking advice and inspiration from many people, including Suga, whom he greatly respects. After such words, I’m really excited to see what he brings to the table and his portrayal of such an influential and dynamic character.

Besides that, the franchise plans to wrap up the anime with a two-part film series instead of a new season. The production had been delayed and hindered because of Covid, so it only makes sense that they want to finish it quickly with movies.

However, fans are not quite happy with it, especially the manga readers who know how crucial the final chapters are. They believe that films won’t be able to capture the essence of the manga’s intense finale, and I hate to admit that they’re right.

Let’s see if the franchise changes its mind, and if not, then we’ll have to make peace with this.

2023 seems like the year for Haikyu!! fans with the play and the movies. The films will begin with the legendary ‘Trash Can Battle’ of Karasuno against Nekoma, which we can barely wait to witness.

The Haikyu!! anime deserves a worthy end, and I hope the franchise gives it one.
