Ricochet’s Anti-Cheat Update to add ‘Hallucinations’ in Call of Duty

Call of Duty is an immensely popular video game franchise. This famed series has a huge community behind it, making it one of the most intense and competitive franchises ever. Its popularity makes it a favorable target for cheaters. As expected, cheating is a massive issue in the Call of Duty fandom.

The Ricochet Anti-Cheat system has a new update which will introduce a new feature in Call of Duty. This feature will disorient cheaters by spawning “hallucinations” or ghost players who will only be visible to cheaters. Any suspicious players can also “self-identify” by reacting to these false players.

These hallucinations look, move, and interact just like a real player would. In simple words, these are clones of an active user in the match, imitating their movements to trick a cheater. At first glance, it would be nearly impossible to distinguish between a hallucination and a real player.

This new update does not eliminate cheaters completely nor is it a definitive solution to cheating. However, it will surely help out in the ongoing battle against those players who are using unfair means to gain an advantage.

It is reassuring to know that the Call of Duty team is doing everything possible to make the game fair for everyone playing. An issue such as this will not be resolved overnight so it makes sense that the team is tackling it one step at a time.

“In some scenarios, #TeamRICOCHET may choose to deploy in-game roadblocks we call Mitigations on accounts we verify as cheating. These are gameplay adjustments we can make to constrain the gameplay experience of verified cheaters – such as taking away their weapons with Disarm or making legitimate players invisible to cheaters with Cloaking.”

Ricochet’s latest update comes at a really great time for the Call of Duty community. To know that Activision is actively committed to clearing out cheaters is encouraging news to those who remain loyal to the game. Hopefully, there will be more such improvements in the near future as another season approaches.
