Netflix Upgrades Its Children’s Content Roster with Dr. Seuss Series

Netflix is taking its preschool content rather seriously. The streaming company announced a renewed collaboration with Dr. Seuss Enterprises that will feature animated adaptations of five famous books from the famous children’s author.

The stories selected for the new project are ‘Horton Hears a Who!,’ ‘One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish,’ ‘The Sneetches,’ ‘Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose,’ and ‘Wacky Wednesday’.

Several of Dr. Seuss’ works have been adapted for the big screen, including The Cat in the Hat and Jim Carrey’s iconic The Grinch. The five upcoming projects will make Netflix’s roster for the younger audience richer.

Details for two of the five projects were revealed. ‘The Sneetches’ and ‘Thidwick The Big-Hearted Moose’ will premiere as 45-minute-long specials. The remaining three will be released as episodic series.

The new stories being told will not only feature the classic humor, art style and rhythmic nature of Dr. Seuss’ works that fans love, but will also explore themes of diversity, respect for others and a more inclusive and tolerant behavior.

As per Heather Tilert, Netflix’s Director of Preschool Content, these animated adaptations will be created in a refreshing and modern way that will help the audience relate to the content.

After the positive reception and the awards that the animated retelling of ‘Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham’ (2019) received, President and CEO of Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Susan Brand, is hopeful about continued success with future projects.

Brand opened up about how the company was always looking to share the stories and messages of the popular children’s books in new ways, and Netflix’s ability to create new and engaging ways to do so had led to a very positive collaboration.

According to Netflix’s official statement, Executive Producer Dustin Ferrer (Esme and Roy, Shimmer and Shine) will be the primary showrunner and will helm all five projects. Other showrunners and key creators will be revealed in the near future.
