Good Omens Creator Confirms Major Time Jump in S2 & Reveals New Timeline

With season 2 of Good Omens on the way, fans have a few questions after the first trailer for the latest instalment was released recently. The fandom put its questions to Neil Gaiman, who created the show based on his and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel of the same name, and he has an answer on one front – the season 2 timeline.

At season 1’s end, we saw Aziraphale and Crowley escaping from the vengeance of heaven and hell combined after they thwarted the apocalypse. However, the fandom wasn’t sure where season 2 picks up after the main angel and demon duo wrapped their celebratory dinner in season 1’s final scene.

Taking to Tumblr, Gaiman added the answer, explaining that a few years have gone by, setting season 2 in “more or less real-time.” Season 2 will pick up after four years have passed, with the archangel Gabriel mysteriously ending up at their door. Read his quoted answer below:

Good Omens Season 2

It takes place a few years after the end of Season 1. It feels like it’s probably in more or less real-time, which would mean it’s four years on.

The trailer suggests that after the two landed on Earth, both sides of the afterlife left them unbothered but continued to keep a watchful eye on the unpredictable duo.

However, their peaceful life will be upended when the missing archangel suddenly appears at Aziraphale’s bookshop with all his memories long gone.

The season 2 cast does put some ideas in our heads. For example, Adria Arjona, Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean, and Sam Taylor Buck are not returning this season, making it clear that all involved in the Tadfield incident are now leading ordinary lives. Apart from that, I guess we’ll have to wait for the season 2 premiere for a clearer picture of the latest mess the unlikely team has gotten itself in.

Season 2 of Good Omens will drop on Prime Video in its entirety on July 28, 2023. Place your bets and theories before that and hold on to your seats for the latest adventure.
