The first episode of My Master Has No Tail was quite entertaining, as well as cute. I’m looking forward to the next one and how this series progresses.

Since the first episode ended with Mameda making up her mind and deciding to be a rakugo master, we will see her convince the rakugo speaker to teach her how to become one.
It will be the start of her journey, and we could also see some more flashbacks of her times with her father.

Episode 1 Recap
The episode opens with a rakugo speaker explaining the pranks a tanuki pulled on humans.
We see our protagonist, Mameda, who is a tanuki girl who can shapeshift, being sent to Osaka on a mission while being told not to prank humans, but she doesn’t plan on listening to this instruction and plans to do the contrary.
She transforms into a human so that she can proceed to prank them. She goes to a shop and asks for buns with leaves that have been transformed into money, goes to a police station after transforming herself to be faceless, and even tries to appear as just a fireball – but no one falls for it.
A woman drops a hat on her, and when Mameda goes back to give it to her, and even though she goes disguised as a man, she gets caught by her anyway. She reveals she’s a rakugo speaker. It is revealed that Mameda disguised herself as her father, who was also a prankster.
She hides from some people who try to catch her. She sees a crowd for a rakugo performance. Inside, she spots the same woman with the hat, who narrates a story which mesmerizes Mameda.
Mameda is discovered by the crowd because of the pranks she pulled on them, and runs away from them. She climbs up to the tower, where she’s surrounded by those who want to catch her. She jumps off, but is saved by the speaker, who Mameda guesses is a fox demon. She thinks human civilization will eventually evolve, and foxes will be forgotten. She tells Mameda to stop pulling pranks.
We see a flashback of mameda, and her dad, who also tells her humans will forget tanuki and their pranks. Mameda decides she wants to become a rakugo master.
About My Master Has No Tail
My Master Has No Tail is a manga by TNSK which is serialized in Kodansha’s good! Afternoon magazine from January 2019.
The manga features Mameda, a shape-shifting tanuki, who wants to learn the art of rakugo or comic storytelling. She sought out Bunko to be her master.
Yet, Bunko has no intention to have an apprentice. After lots of mishaps, Mameda is taken in and needs to prepare for going through the tough path of being an artist.
