Muv-Luv Alternative Episode 12: Release Date, Speculation

Episode 11 of Muv-Luv Alternative, titled “Each Other’s Thoughts,” was the latest installment in the anime.

This episode seemed like the calm before the storm. Each scene was filled with exposition as the characters talked about the upcoming war, discussed politics, and how BETA had impacted their world.

We see that patriotism is a recurring theme in this episode as Irma and Miki’s conversation reveals that despite serving in the American army, Irma wants Finland to flourish again.

Yuuhi asks the team to focus on wiping out the BETA first and worry about the nation’s development once their war against BETA ends. Towards the end of the episode, Irma breaks the ceasefire and opens fire on Sagiri’s troops.

How will Takeru and his tram resolve their issues in this season’s finale? We’ll find out in the next episode.   

Episode 12 Speculation

Episode 12 will explore humanity’s strategies to defeat the BETA. Alternative Plan IV will continue as Takeru, with the help of the Japanese troops, will protect Yuuhi. After Irma attacks Sagiri and his men, the ceasefire is violated, and a battle ensues.

Although the anime sometimes feels over-saturated with dialogue and politics, I hope it receives a finale that provides some amount of justice to the original visual novel.

Episode 11 Recap

The episode begins with Miki meeting a Finnish pilot, Irma, who serves as a soldier for the US after Finland’s downfall. Irma expresses how she became a part of the US army to safeguard her mother and younger sister.

She also tells Miki about her father, who went MIA after fighting on the frontlines against the BETA.

She says that she hopes to see Finland flourish again someday. This exchange reminds Miki of her conversation with her father and wonders if he helped start the revolt so that the American forces had no choice but to interfere.

Takeru talks to Yuuhi, who warns him about the many hardships his future will bring. She tells him that many difficult decisions lie ahead, but he mustn’t hesitate and keep moving forward.

Takeru thanks her for her words and informs her that all the pilots of his team are linked to Japan’s leadership in one way or the other.

Yuuki asks everyone to gather around her and reassures them that she will take on a crucial role in the government and introduce many reforms as soon as the coup gets resolved.

Meiya steps forward and volunteers to disguise herself as Yuuhi and negotiate with Sagiri in her stead.

They put this plan into action, and Takeru, Meiya, and Tsukuyomi decide to meet Sagiri. Her pride and honor cause Sagiri to agree with them and stand down.

He then warns them that the troops behind initially breaking into a fight in Tokyo worked for the US intelligence agency. This implied that America fuelled the coup as a setup for their own gain.

Suddenly, Irma launches an attack on Sagiri’s troops and breaks the ceasefire. She’s apparently brainwashed and hence, couldn’t stop herself from instigating a fight.

Muv-Luv is originally an adult game that was released for Windows in the year 2003.

It consists of two parts: Muv-Luv Extra and Muv-Luv Unlimited. It was later adapted into a Japanese visual novel developed by age 2003. The game was followed by a sequel, Muv-Luv Alternative.

The Muv-Luv franchise is also home to several other styles of games, many manga spin-offs, and anime series such as “Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse” (2012) and “Schwarzesmarken” (2016).

In Muv-Luv Alternative, the protagonist Takeru wakes up three years after the end of the previous adaptation, Muv-Luv Unlimited, and finds himself back in his room.

He initially thinks that it was all a dream until he leaves his house to find that he has traveled back in time to when the events in Unlimited first began.

Unable to accept Alternative V, he aids professor Kouzuki in saving mankind by completing Alternative IV.
