New Ms. Marvel Set Photos by Director Confirm Reshooting

Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy confirmed the re-filming of the upcoming superhero series, Ms. Marvel, on January 26.

Obaid-Chinoy, one of the four directors of the show, uploaded Instagram stories giving audiences a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of the series.

Multiple wall sets seem to be erected in mid-air with a telescopic handler in one image. Obaid-Chinoy also added a sticker of “play time” in the bottom right corner of the image. The other picture captured the director’s chairs with the funky Ms. Marvel logo behind and two screens in the front.

The series reportedly wrapped up filming in Thailand in May 2021. After nearly eight months, the cast (most probably) and crew are again filming for scenes that they might want to perfect.

Though reshoots are nothing new in the Marvel universe, fans speculate that this one might be in light of the recent backlash Ms. Marvel received.

Ms. Marvel is an adaptation of the teen superhero from the comic books. The comic, which features the first Muslim superhero, was loved globally because of its universality and partly because of the teenager’s multiple powers that made her unique from her role model.

However, in the teasers released until now, Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) seems to only possess similar powers as that of Captain Marvel. Her shapeshifting, elasticity and size alteration capabilities look wiped off to fit better in the MCU, leaving many fans disgruntled.

The criticism from the fans was huge, due to which some think the reshoots were put in place to give her some of her original powers back. Whether that is true or not will only be revealed once the show releases.

On another note, the show’s premiere date remains unchanged as of yet. Ms. Marvel is expected to be released sometime in summer 2022 on Disney+.

About Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel is an ongoing American television miniseries created by Bisha K. Ali for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics character Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Kamala is a 16-year-old Muslim Pakistani-American from Jersey City who writes superhero fan fiction, particularly about her idol, Captain Marvel. Having dreamed about becoming a superhero herself, Kamala  discovers she has superpowers and dons the mask of Ms. Marvel.

Ms. Marvel will serve as a setup for the film The Marvels (2022), in which Vellani will reprise her role as Kamala. The series is produced by Marvel Studios, with Ali serving as head writer and Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah leading the directing team. Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, with Saagar Shaikh, Aramis Knight, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur also starring.
