Gundam has finally announced a new anime series for the first time in seven years, and the excitement is over the moon. The upcoming series is titled The Witch from Mercury, and I am already bursting with speculations.
This will be Gundam’s first TV anime in seven years after Iron-Blooded Orphans. The bittersweet ending of that show left us all heartbroken yet hopeful for the franchise’s new installments.
Now that we finally have official news for a new Gundam series, it’s getting difficult to keep my anticipation in control.
Sunrise revealed that Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, is scheduled for a 2022 release.
The title suggests that the show may venture out to other genres while maintaining its characteristic theme of mecha and sci-fi. It may even introduce some new tech that seems like it’s magic, explaining the witch aspect of the show.
Iron-Blooded Orphans is probably the most brutal and heart-wrenching series from Gundam, given its war-coated theme with child soldiers. The show also threw light on the struggle the lower economic classes go through and the barbarity of war.
The Witch from Mercury might not be that dark since Bandai Namco’s Koji Fujiwara stated that they aim to create something for the younger generation. They want to expand and develop Gundam to meet the current expectations and trends.
I am excited about this upcoming series and looking forward to what new stuff Gundam will bring us in this new show. The title is intriguing enough, and I cannot wait for more info on this.
