Rebecca Ferguson finally gives her opinion about Isa Faust’s death in Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning and a possible return in Mission: Impossible 8.
Mission: Impossible-Dead Reckoning features a climactic clash between IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and Gabriel (Esai Morales) with the omnipotent AI called Entity wreaking things in the background.
The film features the death of one of the iconic characters in the franchise, Isa Faust, who is killed in a fight with Gabriel.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight for Dune: Part Two promotions, Rebecca Ferguson opens up about her thoughts on Isa Faust’s death. The actress reveals that she’s no longer interested in the character’s arc and wants the character to go rogue and not be a team member.
When asked whether she’s done with the franchise, she replies,’ You never know, right?’ Read her full comments below:
Do you remember when we talked about those three picture deals in Hollywood? Well, sometimes those end and actors have the possibility of saying yes or no. So we were at that point and Mission is such a huge dedication, and I’ve done it, and it’s fantastic, and it’s amazing and [Christopher McQuarrie] and [Tom Cruise] wrote this incredible character. It’s just that much you can do with a character, I find. I’m entitled to my own opinion in this. I want her to go rogue. I’m interested in the dark side. I don’t want a team member. It’s not interesting to me and I felt like that’s where we were heading, and it also takes a lot of time to make Mission. It is blood, sweat, and tears doing those films and by now, I’ve done a TV show and two movies. They’re still on Mission… But that’s the thing you never know, right?
Although Isa is seemingly killed, there are still logical fan theories about how she might secretly be alive and come back in Mission: Impossible 8.
One theory suggests that Isa is simply pretending to be dead, as Ethan suggests in the film’s initial moments. Faking her death and returning in the next franchise installment might be an elaborate ruse to trick the Entity.
However, Christopher McQuarrie and Ferguson have poured cold water on the hopes. McQuarrie has asked the fans not to have any expectations because Isa is actually dead.
However, Isa has decided to play with the ambiguity by saying, You never know, right?” The conundrum can only be solved when Mission: Impossible 8 hits the theaters on May 23, 2025.
